AMERICA 250 FAIR
June 27, 2026 from 10:00am to 4:00pm at Johnston Community College
Immerse yourself in a living history encampment by Camp Flintlock, including a parade and cannon firing; plus art and history displays presented by the Johnston County Arts Council and the Johnston County Heritage Center; a puppet show hosted by the Woman’s Club of Clayton; carriage rides; food and craft vendors; a juried Art and Photography exhibition; and information booths from local organizations. Free! Everyone welcome!

History isn’t just told—it’s felt. Join us in the heart of Downtown Smithfield for a powerful and rhythmic celebration of Johnston County's deepest roots. Witness the dedication of the new Tuscarora Mural, a vibrant landmark honoring the legacy and enduring presence of the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina. Be captivated by authentic storytelling that bridges centuries; experience the energy of traditional music and dance performed by members of the Tuscarora Nation; and view the new addition to Smithfield’s historic streetscape. Free and open to all.

Discover three new markers in Smithfield and Meadow dedicated to the local heroes and pivotal moments of the American Revolution. Hear the stories of the people who shaped Johnston County and the nation. These markers are more than just metal and stone—they are a permanent tribute to the grit and spirit of those who came before us. Free and open to all.

Our Curated Walking Tours offer an intimate, foot-level look at the vibrant heritage that defines Johnston County. From Victorian silhouettes to sturdy brickwork and verdant fields, discover the evolution of Southern design. Hear the stories of notable Johnstonians—the visionaries, rebels, and leaders who built our community from the ground up. Whether you're a local or a visitor, these tours offer a fresh perspective on the places we call home. Free and open to all.
