Art and Photography Exhibition - June 26 through 28, 2026

Johnston County’s America250 Fair on June 27 and the production of the musical 1776, June 26, 27, and 28, will feature an exhibition of artists’ works in painting and photography categories. The theme is “Everyday Life in Johnston County, Past and Present."

Calendar

  • All entry forms must be received by June 15, 2026.  Email entry forms to info@jcartscouncil.org.

  • Notification of inclusion in the exhibition will be sent to the artist no later than June 22, 2026.

  • Delivery of artwork will be Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm (unless prior arrangements are made) at Great Hall of Paul A. Johnston Auditorium, Tart Building, Johnston Community College, located at 269 College Road, Smithfield, NC.

  • Pick up all artwork at the end of the event on Sunday, June 28, 2026, between 3:30 and 6:00 pm.

Categories

In order to be eligible for competition in this show, original artwork must not have been previously awarded a prize. Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

PAINTING CATEGORY:
Oils, acrylics, watercolors, colored pencils, pastels, pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink.

PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY:
Artistic photography, digital or traditional.

Note: The Johnston County Committee for America250NC and the Johnston County Arts Council reserve the right to photograph all entries and use any images for publicity or reject any entry that is deemed not suitable for display.

Awards (given per category)

  • 1st place: $200
  • 2nd place: $100
  • 3rd place: $50
  • Honorable Mention: Ribbon
  • BEST OF SHOW: $300

One winner will be determined by the judges from all entries. Judging will take place on Friday morning, June 26, 2026.

Sales

Each entry for sale should have a tag with price marked clearly, with sales payable to the artist. A 10% commission on sales will be shared paid to the Johnston County Heritage Center, with half of these proceeds shared with the Johnston County Arts Council. Artwork not for sale should be marked “NFS.” We will not accept tags marked “Price upon Request.”

Entry Instructions

Display of work

Artwork must be framed and securely placed on artist-provided easels. Work on canvas with finished edges is acceptable. No frames with exposed glass edges will be accepted. Entries should not exceed 48” in any direction (including frame).

Liability

The Johnston County Committee for America250NC, Johnston County Arts Council, and Johnston Community College are not responsible for theft or damage to art entries, including nicks to frames, breakage of glass, or scratches to Plexiglas. Artist is responsible for any insurance deductible.
