Charles Pender awarded MVP in Erosion and Sedimentation Control from NC DEQ

In April, the NC DEQ Land Quality Section hosted the annual Local Program Workshop for Sedimentation and Erosion Control programs across the State. During the workshop, Johnston County Public Utilities employee, Charles Pender, was awarded Most Valuable Person in Erosion and Sedimentation Control.
When announcing the award, State staff stated:
"For over 25 years, Charles has been a cornerstone of Johnston County, and for the past decade, he's been a driving force in erosion and sediment control, not just as an inspector, but as a mentor, educator, and problem solver."
"Charles has a remarkable gift for taking complex regulations and making them clear, whether he's talking with a homeowner, a developer, or a new staff member."
"Charles takes every complaint seriously. He goes above and beyond to investigate, follow up, and make sure that the community understands the outcome."
Charles' many field inspections are thorough, averaging around 85 a month. And his extensive experience allows him to work collaboratively with contractors to find practical, effective solutions."
"His fairness and professionalism have earned him respect across the development community, as well as from peers at both the local and state level."
"Charles has built strong relationships with neighboring programs, state and federal agencies, and many partners who rely on his expertise."
"Above all, Charles is respected by his colleagues, by North Carolina DEQ, and by the development community for his fairness, professionalism, and his deep love for Johnston County."
Johnston County Public Utilities agrees with all of these comments and is very thankful that we have Charles on our team.
His dedication to the County, the Public Utilities department, and the residents of Johnston County is evident every day. We are proud of Charles, and sincerely appreciate all he does.
