Help Shape the Future of Johnston County at Upcoming UDO Public Hearings

Johnston residents have three more chances to help shape the County’s proposed Unified Development (UDO). The first is a public hearing before the Johnston County Planning Board, which will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Courthouse in Smithfield.

To hear as many voices as possible, the Planning Board will continue its Oct. 20 public hearing at 6 p.m. Oct. 26, also at the Courthouse. The board may follow that hearing with a vote on whether to recommend Commissioners adopt the UDO, amend it, or table it for more work.

The Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Courthouse.

Commissioners could adopt the UDO two weeks later, at their 6 p.m. meeting on Nov. 16.

An updated draft of the proposed UDO will be available online at JohnstonNC.gov/UDO tomorrow afternoon.
