Johnston County lifts water shortage advisory

SMITHFIELD — Johnston County has officially rescinded the water shortage advisory issued on June 9, effective immediately.

The advisory had asked Public Utilities customers to voluntarily reduce water use as a conservation measure. County officials thank customers for their cooperation during the advisory period.

Although the water shortage advisory has been lifted, Johnston County's mandatory year-round outdoor water conservation policy remains in effect.

Under the policy, customers using in-ground irrigation systems or hose-end sprinklers must follow an alternate-day watering schedule based on their street address:

• Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
• Even-numbered addresses: Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays
• No outdoor irrigation is allowed on Mondays.

Residents filling swimming pools should do so only on the days permitted for their address under the irrigation schedule.

The year-round conservation policy is designed to promote responsible water use and help protect Johnston County's water resources.
