Johnston County Veterans Council to Host Memorial Day Ceremony

Smithfield, North Carolina — The Johnston County Veterans Council will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026.
The ceremony will bring together local veterans groups, community leaders and Johnston County residents to reflect on the sacrifices made in defense of freedom. The public and members of the media are invited.

What: Memorial Day ceremony.
When: 11 a.m. Monday, May 25.
Where: Old Superior Courtroom, Johnston County Courthouse, 207 S. Second St., Smithfield, N.C.
Speakers: Lalonzo Chambers, Marine Corps League Carry On Detachment 1236; Reggie Parker, American Legion Post 346, Four Oaks; Mike Arrington, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5955, Selma; and Tom Holcomb, American Legion Post 405, Pine Level. All will speak about a distinguished member of their organization.
Notes: The invocation will be by Sherrill G. Stevens, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. County Commissioner Ted Godwin, a U.S. Army veteran, will give the welcome. The observance will end with a wreath-laying ceremony, a firing party by the American Legion Post 346 Honor Guard, and the playing of taps.
