Smithfield, N.C.- On March 23 at 6:00 p.m., the Johnston County Board of Commissioners will host a Town Hall meeting to present the draft Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), address community questions, and gather public feedback. The meeting will take place at the Johnston County Agricultural Center, located at 2736 N.C. 210 in Smithfield, N.C. There will be no vote on the UDO at this meeting.

The meeting will start with a presentation on the UDO from County planning staff and will be live streamed on the County’s YouTube channel. We'll also take some time to clear up rumors regarding the UDO. Following the presentation, staff will host a brief Q&A and then attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a floating informational session. Information stations will be set up around the room, giving residents the opportunity to review detailed materials, ask questions directly to County staff, and provide feedback.

If you're not able to attend in-person, follow along with our livestream at https://www.youtube.com/jocogovnc. We'll have the full video of the presentation available on our YouTube channel once the meeting has concluded.

The latest draft of the ordinance and a summary of recent revisions are available on the Planning Department’s website johnstonnc.gov/planning/. Commissioners note that more revisions are likely as they continue to receive feedback from the public.

Notice of Chickens change to UDO

Based on public input, the proposed standards placing zoning limitations on poultry and farm animals kept on residential property will be removed from the next draft of the UDO. The newest draft will remove the cap and standards entirely across all districts.
