FFA Week Highlights the Strength of Agricultural Education in Johnston County
For immediate release: February 27, 2026
Smithfield, North Carolina — Johnston County proudly joined more than one million Future Farmers of America (FFA) members nationwide in celebrating National FFA Week, Feb. 21-28.
This year’s theme, “Learn to Do, Do to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve,” highlights the commitment of FFA members to agricultural education, leadership development and community service.
Founded in 1928, the National FFA Organization has grown into one of the nation’s largest youth leadership organizations, with more than 1 million members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. National FFA Week is held each February to coincide with George Washington’s birthday, recognizing his legacy as both an agriculturalist and a leader.
“As one of North Carolina’s leading agricultural counties, Johnston County understands firsthand the importance of preparing the next generation of leaders in food, fiber, and fuel,” said Michelle Davis, Johnston County Commissioner. “Our FFA students are building skills not only in traditional agriculture, but also in biotechnology, environmental systems, agribusiness, and advanced manufacturing. All of these fields are also critical to our local economy.”
Throughout the week, FFA chapters across Johnston County Public Schools host activities such as teacher appreciation events, community service projects, classroom outreach initiatives and agricultural education showcases. These efforts underscore the continued importance of farming and agribusiness in Johnston County, where agriculture remains a cornerstone of the local economy and heritage.
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the National FFA Organization also hosted Give FFA Day, a 24-hour campaign encouraging alumni, partners and community members to invest in the future of agricultural education.
Johnston County Government is proud to support agricultural education programs that strengthen workforce development, promote innovation and preserve the county’s rich farming tradition.
