Parents in Johnston County most often preferred the names above
when naming their newborns in 2025.

Johnston County celebrated 2,015 births in 2025 — 1,005 boys and 1,010 girls. What did their parents name them?

The Johnston County Register of Deeds Office has the answer. The office has released its annual list of the most popular names for boys and girls born in the County.

Some of the 2025 names are perennial favorites of Johnston County parents; others are less common. Here are the Top 5 for both boys and girls.

Boys

  1. Liam — 20 parents named their son Liam.

  2. Noah — 17.

  3. William — 12.

  4. Elias — 11.

  5. Mateo — 10.

Girls

  1. Mia and Sophia — 11 parents named their daughters Mia; the same number named their daughters Sophia.

Craig Olive is Johnston County’s registrar of deeds. “My staff and I always enjoy looking back at previous years to see the most popular names of babies born in our county,” he said. “It’s fascinating to see which names continually stay in the top spots while others just make a one- or two-time appearance.”
