Johnston County Announces White Flag Shelter Availability During Winter Storm Warning

For Immediate Release:
Smithfield, N.C. - Johnston County is under a Winter Storm Warning from Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon, with a significant risk of ice accumulation that could cause major impacts across the County. In response, the County and community partners will activate White Flag shelter operations and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning Saturday.
While forecasts will continue to evolve, potential impacts include power outages, falling trees, hazardous driving conditions, and closures or disruptions to infrastructure. Residents are strongly encouraged to prepare now and avoid unnecessary travel beginning Saturday afternoon.

County-Facilitated White Flag Shelter:
Johnston County Government will operate a White Flag shelter at 600 M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway, Smithfield, with receiving hours beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday
Emergency Operations Center:
The Johnston County Emergency Operations Center will be activated at noon Saturday. Beginning at noon, non-emergency calls may be directed to (919) 989-5400.
