Appointed Positions


PUBLIC NOTICE
JUNE APPOINTMENTS

The Johnston County Board of Commissioners will be considering the following upcoming appointments.   Please note the deadline to apply is May 19, 2026.  Applicants must be a resident of Johnston County. 

Child Fatality Prevention Team – 4 positions; 3 year terms. (One position representing a parent of a child that died before reaching their 18th birthday; and three positions are representing county agencies or community at large)

Firefighters Relief Fund Boards of Trustees – 2 year terms:  There is 1 position available for each of the following Fire Districts: Brogden, Elevation, 50/210, Wilson’s Mills, and West Johnston.  There are 2 positions available for each of the following Fire Districts: North Side and O’Neals.

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council – 6 positions; 2 year terms. Applicants must represent one of the following areas: Chief of Police, Representative Member of Business Community, Representing General Public, Representative of Local Parks & Rec and two individuals under the age of 21.)

Library Board of Trustees – 1 position; 3 year terms. 

Local Emergency Planning Commission – 3 positions; 2 year terms. Applicants must represent one of the following areas: Emergency Medical Services (EMT, Field Person), Fire (Captain or Above) and Transportation (Trucking Industry, School, Railroad, DOT)

Nursing Home/Adult Care Home Community Advisory Board – 16 positions; 1 year term for new appointees or 3 year term for reappointed members.  “No person or immediate family member of a person with a financial interest in a home served by a committee, or an employee or governing board member of a home served by a committee, or immediate family member of a patient in a home served by a committee may be a member of a committee.”

Pleasant Grove Community Building Board of Trustees – 4 positions; 2 year terms.

Social Services Board – 2 positions; 3 year terms.

Veterans Services Advisory Board – 1 position; 3 year term. (Eligible applicants must be a Veteran.  One position representing County Commissioner District 7). 

Voluntary Agricultural District Advisory Board - 3 positions; 3 year terms (Applicants must be actively engaged in farming and meet the eligibility criteria for the Johnston County Voluntary Agricultural District Program and/or express special interest, experience or education in agricultural and/or land preservation.)


Johnston County Citizens wishing to be considered may submit a short application form to the Clerk to the Board, P.O. Box 1049, Smithfield, North Carolina 27577 by May 19, 2026.  Short application forms are available in the Clerk to the Board’s Office, Johnston County Courthouse 207 E.
