Department of Social Services launching school supply drive


The Johnston County Department of Social Services will hold a school supply drive August 7-31.

Here’s what’s on the wish list as students report to school later this month:

Backpacks

  • New, durable, unfilled backpacks for boys and girls in grades K-12.

Writing and paper supplies

  • Spiral notebooks and loose-leaf paper (wide and college ruled)

  • Composition books (wide and college ruled)

  • Index cards

  • Sticky notes (3x3)

  • No. 2 pencils

  • Pens (black, blue, and red ink)

  • Colored pencils and crayons

  • Highlighters

  • Markers

  • Dry-erase markers (black preferred)

Organization

  • 1-inch and 1.5-inch binders

  • Binder dividers

  • Two-pocket folders (with prongs)

  • Pencil pouches

Tools & accessories

  • Scissors for kids (all ages)

  • Glue sticks (no glue bottles)

  • Erasers

  • Pencil sharpeners

  • Wired headphones

  • Gallon and sandwich bags

  • Disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer

  • Facial tissues

Johnston residents should bring their donations to DSS, 714 North Street, Smithfield, N.C. 27577. Donation hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
