Department of Social Services launching school supply drive
The Johnston County Department of Social Services will hold a school supply drive August 7-31.
Here’s what’s on the wish list as students report to school later this month:
Backpacks
- New, durable, unfilled backpacks for boys and girls in grades K-12.
Writing and paper supplies
- Spiral notebooks and loose-leaf paper (wide and college ruled)
- Composition books (wide and college ruled)
- Index cards
- Sticky notes (3x3)
- No. 2 pencils
- Pens (black, blue, and red ink)
- Colored pencils and crayons
- Highlighters
- Markers
- Dry-erase markers (black preferred)
Organization
- 1-inch and 1.5-inch binders
- Binder dividers
- Two-pocket folders (with prongs)
- Pencil pouches
Tools & accessories
- Scissors for kids (all ages)
- Glue sticks (no glue bottles)
- Erasers
- Pencil sharpeners
- Wired headphones
- Gallon and sandwich bags
- Disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer
- Facial tissues
Johnston residents should bring their donations to DSS, 714 North Street, Smithfield, N.C. 27577. Donation hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
