• Description: This project involved the construction of approximately 5,818 linear feet of 8-inch gravity sewer and 645 linear feet of 24-inch gravity sewer. This new system was designed to redirect wastewater flow from the existing Whitley Heights Pump Station to the downstream Reedy Branch pump station. The project served 63 three-and-a-half-bedroom single-family homes, collecting 17,640 gallons per day of domestic wastewater, which is then be treated at the 210 Wastewater Treatment Facility. The project also included the demolition of the Whitley Heights Pump Station and its associated force main. The work entailed several components, including clearing and grubbing, trench excavation, pipe installation (PVC gravity sewer pipe and C900 pipe), manhole construction, and backfilling. Specific items included the installation of 576 linear feet of 8" SDR-35, 430 linear feet of 24" SDR-35, and 214 linear feet of 24" C900 pipes, as well as 5-foot diameter manholes with varying depths and epoxy coatings. The project also addressed erosion control, seeding and mulching, and required compliance with various quality assurance standards and environmental regulations from organizations like ASTM, AASHTO, NCDOT, and NCDEQ.
