Johnston’s sixth annual countywide cleanup is seeking volunteers.
Organized by the Friends of Johnston County Parks, this year’s event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18.
“We’re excited to be hosting our sixth annual Earth Day Countywide Cleanup, which presents a great opportunity to get outside and make a positive difference,” said Jessica Meadows Rich, event organizer and chairwoman of the Friends. “The 2025 event was a great success, with almost 300 volunteers showing up to remove more than 5,000 pounds of litter from parks, trails, roadsides, and schools across Johnston County.”
This year’s partners in the cleanup include Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site, Flower Hill Nature Preserve, the Cleveland community, and the towns of Clayton, Kenly, Princeton, and Smithfield.
“Earth Day is a great reminder that caring for our parks and public spaces is a shared responsibility,” Rich said. “We’re proud to partner with communities across the county to make a real impact, and even just a few hours of volunteering can make a visible difference in our parks, roadsides, and natural areas.”
To volunteer, complete the required registration form (opens in a new tab). Volunteers can select a preferred geographic area of the County to help clean up. We will send an email with details once you've been assigned to a location.
Bags, gloves, and safety vests might be available at each location, but volunteers should bring their own if they can.
