Firework Safety

FIREWORK SAFETY, Celebrating Independence Day in a Safe Way

1. Leave the Light Shows to the Trained Pros

  • Fireworks are fun, but they're no joke. Misuse or recklessness can result in SERIOUS, if not DEADLY, injury.
  • In 2019, there were an estimated 10,000 injuries caused by fireworks, with 7,300 occurring around July 4th.

2. Keep the FIRE risk out of Your Fireworks

  • Fireworks are responsible for 19,500 FIRES annually.
  • Even a handheld sparkler can be dangerous, as they can burn from 1,200 to 2,000 degrees farenheit.

3. Remember your Neighbors and Pets

  • As you celebrate, remember that NOT EVERYONE DEALS WITH LOUD NOISES WELL. Remember your neighbors, especially if they are ELDERLY, VETERANS, OR HAVE PETS. Each year, pets go missing trying to flee from firework noise.

Safety Tips

  • NEVER allow young children to play with, or ignite, fireworks.
  • Be Conscious of your surroundings, NEVER put yourself or another person in the path of a firework.
  • NEVER re-light or pick up a firework that did not ignite fully. AVOID picking up firework debris, as it could burn you.
