Students from Archer Lodge Middle discuss career opportunities with Emergency Management and Fire Marshal staff outside of the Johnston County Emergency Services booth at JOCO WORKS.
Johnston County Emergency Services was honored to participate in JOCO WORKS earlier this month. The annual event joins local educators, businesses, and community organizations in helping students explore future career opportunities.
“JOCO WORKS continues to be a great event for middle school students to begin thinking about career opportunities,” said Ryan Parker, Emergency Services Director. “We’re honored to play a role in the event and to hopefully spark interest in careers within emergency services.”
This year, all three divisions of emergency services were featured, each offering interactive demonstrations to help students experience what a career in emergency services can look like.
The EMS team provided hands-only CPR demonstrations and gave students a chance to explore an ambulance up close. Students learned life-saving techniques from real training staff, the equipment they use every day, and what it means to respond to medical emergencies within our community.
The Emergency Management division showcased the department’s drone program – giving students a behind-the-scenes look at how unmanned aerial systems support disaster response, damage assessments, search operations, and situational awareness.
Fire Marshal staff engaged students with tools and equipment used during fire investigations and inspections. Students learned how our staff determines fire origins, ensures building safety, and works with local partners to prevent fires before they happen.
Johnston County Emergency Services continues to support career-centered events across the county to build a robust “talent-pipeline” of professionals ready to serve our communities.
