Smithfield, N.C. – Johnston County Emergency Services has officially placed a new emergency medical services (EMS) unit in service. The new ambulance, designated as EMS 16, will strengthen emergency medical response capabilities in a rapidly growing area of the county.

The new unit will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is being housed at Wilson’s Mills Fire Station Three, located on Gordon Road in Clayton.

“Placing EMS 16 in service is an important step in ensuring our system keeps pace with growth while also maintaining our high standards of patient care,” said Adam Godwin, EMS Assistant Chief. “This unit strengthens coverage in one of the county’s fastest-growing areas. Ultimately, this translates to improved system performance and better care for the citizens of Johnston County.”

This station, internally identified as the Novo Station due to its proximity to the commercial facilities of Novo Nordisk, is well positioned, allowing EMS 16 to respond to emergencies local to the Wilson’s Mills area and other areas of the EMS system during periods of increased demand.

The new unit makes the 27th staffed ambulance that is available during the busiest times in the county and the 24th staffed ambulance that is available 24/7.

Johnston County Emergency Services remains committed to proactively expanding resources to meet community needs and to ensure their mission to provide excellent care and quality service.
