3 year terms Debbie Edwards Howard , Timothy Little and Freddie Hudson , Jr were reappointed Susan Weaver Ford was appointed 11 Delinquent Tax Collection Report - Informational item 12 Manager Reports and Comments County Manager Rick Hester gave an update the Board on broadband 13 Board Reports and Comments Commissioner Michelle Pace Davis thanked everyone for their flexibility in moving the agenda around for the January 21st meeting that was cancelled due to inclement weather Commissioner Bill Stovall spoke on the Johnston County 4H Target Sports Program Commissioner Stovall stated this has become the most popular 4H program not only in the State but in the Nation and due to the growth , they have had to limit participants due to the lack of space Commissioner Stovall said he would like to see adapting the archery range to accommodate firearm portions of the program to allow for more participants Commissioner Stovall also mentioned the need for a publicPageshooting range in Johnston County Commissioner Stovall said that it would be further down the road , but believes this is something that is needed as Johnston County has been known to be a strong supporter of the second amendment Commissioner Ted G Godwin stated the Board does not typically respond during the Public Comment portion of the meeting Commissioner Godwin mentioned the comments made by Neuse Charter School and would like to see the Board discuss the matter to give a response to their request Chairman RS “ Butch ” Lawter , Jr noted the County is obligated by law to fund Johnston County Public Schools and Charter Schools may be funded Chairman Lawter said the Board would discuss the request at the February 17th meeting Commissioner April Stephens stated she hopes it does not look like the Board is not responding Commissioner Stephens said there are seven different opinions , and a response has not yet been agreed upon Commissioner Stephens said when she first came on the Board , one of the things important to her was to find out the why in regards to school bonds Commissioner Stephens stated it was great to see the Board of Education attend the meeting this morning and know there are open conversations and transparency between the Boards Commissioner Stephens also mentioned Johnston County resident , Robert Hunter would be appearing on “ The Voice ” and how excited she is for him and his family Commissioner Rose reiterated the 30 million allocated to Johnston County Public Schools was from a bond that was already voted on Commissioner Rose also stated in regard to broadband , he would like to see Johnston County be involved in deciding what company would be doing the project Commissioner Rose said he would like to see a company not just install fiber but also be there for the customers after the installation Vice Chairman Patrick E Harris said he is very thankful for the relationship with the School Board and that it has not always been that way Vice Chairman Harris also said work is being done on a behavioral health urgent care and there would be more information coming later Vice Chairman Harris said hopefully something would be on the ground soon so citizens can get the help they need Chairman Lawter mentioned the renaming of NC 42 36 to Veterans Boulevard and that most of the signs have been changed except for a few larger signs Chairman Lawter said board assignments have been circulated to the Board members and thanked them for their willingness to serve on those boards Chairman Lawter also mentioned the Strategic Planning Session on February 20th and 21st at the Work Force Development Center in Clayton 14 Closed Session If Requested None requested Page
