Agenda approved 2 Public Comments There were no public comments 3 Resolution – Supporting the Realigning of US 70 from I - 42 to US 70 Business Resolution Adopted The Department of Transportation requests the Board to approve a Resolution supporting the realigning of US 70 from I - None 6 Board Reports and Comments Commissioner April Stephens reiterated on Commissioner Smith’s comment regarding the rezoning cases coming before the Board She stated she hopes the public sees that these developments that came before us over a year ago and how they have taken the time , effort and money to make changes for the betterment of the communities She also said this shows how the Board is sticking firm with the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Capital Improvements Plan ensuring that these projects that are coming across our desk will be for the betterment of our communities Commissioner Tony Braswell recognized two Scouts that attended the meeting PageCommissioner Richard D Braswell stated he takes a lot of pride being a member of the Board and he is impressed with the outcome of the two subdivisions tonight He stated they came back to the Board much improved and commended Commissioner Smith as he has inspired the Board to reach for different heights He also mentioned meeting with two of the Towns today and would like to see an open dialogue continue between the Board and the Towns Chairman RS “ Butch ” Lawter , Jr stated the Board was informed last week via a news release that the Town of Smithfield voted to pursue a lawsuit against the County regarding a utilities - related agreement He stated this Board wants to see the towns succeed and if the towns are succeeding then the County is succeeding He also stated the Board has done several things over the last 3 to 5 years including offering up 55 million in grants to the towns in addition to numerous other projects the Board has funded out of the general and enterprise funds He noted the Board has looked at regionalization and have had unprecedented communications about what that may look like and have under taken a regionalization study that the County is funding to work with the towns He also stated as Commissioner Braswell said this is a key piece of what we are doing along with the Land Use plan where we are pushing higher density growth toward the towns so they can grow He stated we are looking forward to continuing to work with all of our towns to move in that direction , to cooperate , be collaborative and make decisions that are best for the future of Johnston County , not just the unincorporated parts , but also the municipalities He said you will see this Board continue to look forward and work with those towns to make sure we are doing just that 7 Closed Session – NCGS 14331811 a 3 – Attorney Client Privilege No action was taken Page
