Meeting of Board of Commissioners County of JohnstonNovember 17, 1980The Johnston County Board of Commissioners reconvened in regular session Monday,November 17, 1980, at 645 pm, in the Commissioners Room of the Johnston County Courthouse,Smithfield, North Carolina, with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holdl ng, Vice Chairman, J E Rogerson,John M Booker, DVM, and James W CashMembers Absent NoneThe Chairman called the meeting to order and the following business was transactedCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Board of Commissioners go into ExecutiveSession to interview four selected applicants for the position of County AdministratorvoteCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carried by the followingAye Frank B Holding, John M Booker, DVM, James W Cash, J E Rogerson andNorman C DenningNay NoneAfter the interviews and discussion with each applicant, Commissioner James W Cashmoved that the Executive Session be closed and that regular session be resunedCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carried by unanimous voteREGULAR SESSION1 Repairs - Top of CourthouseChairman Denning advised other board members that the Maintenance Supervisor hadcalled to his attention and showed him cavities in the concrete around the outside edge at theeast end of the Courthouse and parts of the concrete had already fallen off Chairman Denningalso told the board that J P Rogers J P Rogers Construction Company had looked at thisarea and advised to reinforce this area would cost approximately 2,000 Mr Rogers alsoadvised the Maintenance Supervisor that other areas around the top of the Courthouse neededrepairAfter discussion, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Chairman negotiatewith J P Rogers Construction Company and get this area of the building repairedCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carried by unanimous vote2 Timber at LandfillChairman Denning advised the board there is such a small amount of timber at thelandfill in the area to be cleared that they can not get a bid from a large firm to remove itand that Bruce Woodard, County Extension Chairman, and Harold Blizzard, County Planner, hadrecommended to sell the timber by load or tonAfter discussion, Commissioner John M Booker moved that Bruce Woodard and HaroldBlizzard be authorized to sell the timberCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which was carried by unanimous voteUpon a motion by Commissioner Frank B Holding, duly seconded by Commissioner JohnM Booker and carried by unanimous vote, the board adjournedNorman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N Creech, ClerkJ j- 2480
