August 12, 1980The Johnston County Board of Commissioners and the Johnston MemorialHospital Board of Trustees met in joint session Tuesday, August 12, 1980, at630 pm, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Smithfield, North Carolina, with allmembers of the Board of Commissioners presentas followsNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Vice - Chairman, J ERogerson, John M Booker, DVM, and James W CashThe following business was transacted1 Discussion - Future of HospitalThe Board of County Commissioners and the Hospital Board of Trusteeshad a lengthy discussion as to the future of the hospital All members voicedmuch concern over the financial condition of the hospital and the Commissionersurged the Hospital Board of Trustees to get the hospital in sound fiscalconditionCommissioner Frank B Holding stated that he was opposed to a privateenterprise owning and operating the hospital Commissioner Holding furtherstated that he would prefer to see a free standing addition to the hospital ata cost of approximately seven million dollars7August 12, 1980 ContinuedCommissioner Booker expressed concern over the fiscal management of thehospital and indicated that he favored an addition to the present hospital, ifpossible to add an addition Commissioner Booker also stressed that he wouldlike for the citizens of the county to have input into the final decision ofthe hospitalChairman Denning expressed opposition to a private enterprise andfavored construction of an addition to the present facilityDuring the joint board meeting, the Hospital Board of Trustees votedin favor of an addition being built on the present site, and also agreed torequest, at a later date, that the Board of County Commissioners call for abond referendum to build a free standing addition to the hospital2 Budget Amendment — Town of Princeton - Funds for New WellCommissioner John M Booker moved that a budget amendment be made bytransferring 10,778 from the Contingency Fund to an expenditure account forthe Town of Princeton to be used to finance 50 of the cost of drilling a newwell to serve the Town of Princeton Reference minutes of September 4, 1979,page 617Commissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which was carried byunanimous vote3 Bids - Automobile for Sheriffs DepartmentKramer Jackson, County Administrator, reviewed with the board thefollowing bids received to purchase a Chevrolet Citation automobile for theSheriffs Department;a Barnes,and Lee Chevrolet 6,67300Benson, North Carolinab Wilson Chevrolet 6,89859Smithfield, North CarolinaIn addition to the above bids, Barnes and Lee submitted a price for a1980 Chevrolet Citation, in stock at 8,167, and a 1980 Chevrolet Malibu, instock at 6,436; and Wilson Chevrolet submitted a price for a 1980 ChevroletMalibu, in stock at 6,85085; and a 1979 Chevrolet Impala, in stock at6,29080Because of the high price of the Chevrolet Citation the board agreed torescind the previous order to purchase a Chevrolet Citation for the SheriffsDepartment Reference Minutes of August 4, 1980, page 15, Minute Book # 17By motion of Commissioner John M Booker, duly seconded by CommissionerJ E Rogerson and carried by unanimous vote, the board voted to purchase the1979 Chevrolet Impala at 6,29080 from Wilson Chevrolet, Smithfield, NorthCarolinaFollowing additional discussion of the future of Johnston MemorialHospital, Commissioner James W Cash moved that this meeting be adjournedCommissioner J E Rogerson seconded the motion which was carried byunanimous voteEleanor N Creech, Clerk to the Board81880Ell0-4410 1rx e x 0, ,,, —Norman C Denning, Chairman0It ?1`IiE
