December 14, 1981The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special calledsession Monday, December 14, 1981, at 12 oclock noon, in the CommissionersRoom of the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, with thefollowing members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Vice Chairman, JamesW Cash, John M Booker, DVM, and Howard BentonMembers Absent NoneThe Chairman called the meeting to order and the following businesswas transacted1 Wastewater Treatment - C K ComponentsGene Cobb, Engineer, Ragsdale Consultants, and R A Avery, Manager,C K Components, Inc, met with the board regarding the treatment of waste-water for the new plant siteMr Avery introduced to the board plans for the new industry, statingthey are planning a 30 thousand square foot building on a 28 acre site withplans to expand Plans are to start out with about 60 employees eventuallygoing to approximately 300, maybe in the next three to four years Mr Averyalso advised that drawings are to be completed by January 15, 1982, and theyplan to start the building by February lst, hoping to be in the plant by earlysummer for operation The overall cost expected to be three to four milliondollarsThe engineer explained to the board the alternatives to providewastewater treatment for,C K, recommending a grinder type pump package typelift station on C K property He further explained that C K wastewaterwould go directly into this lift station and would not go into the Cuttersystem at all The estimated cost of this pumping facility with a two inchline will be approximately 60,000, plus an additional 20 for engineeringcostThe engineer also stated they would use a heavy duty model pump andthat the Town of Clayton had agreed to maintain the pump station for C KTlrDecember 14th ContinuedThe board discussed this matter at length, also discussing futureindustrial growth in this areaCommissioner James W Cash moved that the engineers proposal beaccepted and they be authorized to proceed with engineering of the facilityas recommended to provide treatment of wastewater for C K Components, IncCommissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried2 M J Oliver, Fire Marshal - HospitalizedKramer Jackson, County Manager, told the board that Mel Oliver, sonof M J Oliver, had called the office in reference to inspections that needto be taken care of soon The manager also explained that Mr Oliver willprobably be out of work for several weeks due to heart surgeryCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Chairman be authorizedto appoint someone to take care of the Fire Marshals duties that have to bedone while he is out of work due to sickness, after talking with Mr Oliverregarding this matter`Commissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carriedUpon a motion by Commissioner Frank B Holding, duly seconded byCommissioner Howard Benton and carried, the board adjournedNorman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N CreechClerk to the BoardDetailsAnnotationsEntry PropertiesModified11192013 121401 PMCreated4232003 84256 AMTemplateMinutesFieldsMinutes - TypeSpecialMinutes - Date12141981Book17
