The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the CommissionersRoom of the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, Tuesday, June 1, 1976, at730 pm, with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and HoytCastleberryMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 W B Strickland - West Smithfield Sanitary District - RequestW B Strickland, Chairman, West Smithfield Sanitary District, met with the Board ofCommissioners renewing a request for assistance for the West Smithfield Sanitary District Withthe districts indebtedness resulting from the installation of water and sewer systems, MrStrickland again requested 200,000 from the County to help reduce the burden of the tax rate of75? per 100 valuation set for residents of the West Smithfield Sanitary DistrictThe Board of Commissioners was very sympathetic with Mr Stricklands request and emphasizedthat the county will be able to consider his request in a few months as the West Smithfield SanitaryDistrict water line will assist the county in going to Clayton with-a water line from SmithfieldThe Board agreed that in face of the countys obligations with the Kenly Project waterline for new industry it is hopeful that the county will be able to assist the West SmithfieldSanitary District in the 1977 -78 fiscal year in the amount requested2 Discussion - School BudThe Board of Commissioners agained discussed the 1976 -77 School Budget and asked MrJackson, County Administrator, to talk with Mr Simpson regarding the budget requests3 Bids for Fuel Oil - Tank -Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry moved that Kramer Jackson, County Administrator, be authorizedto accept bids for the county for regular unleaded gasoline, a 10,000 gallon tank and a gasolinepumpCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carried unanimously4 Public Hearing - 1976 -1977 Fiscal Year BudgetThe Board of Commissioners set June 22, 1976 at 730 pm, Commissioners Room, Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, for the Public Hearing on the 1976 -1977 BudgetUpon a motion by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry, duly seconded by Commissioner Frank Bj Holding and carried unanimously, the Board adjournedINorman C Denning, Chairman- VkEleanor N Creech, erki
