r 138Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonNovember 26, 1975The Johnston County Board of Commissioners, Norman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding,Vice Chairman, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and Hoyt Castleberry, met in Executive Session, WednesdayNovember 26, 1975, at 730 pm, in the Commissioners Room of the Johnston County Courthouse,Smithfield, North Carolina, for discussion of an appointment to fill the unexpired term of Registerof Deeds, due to the resignation of Mr W G MasseyThe Chairman advised that the Johnston County Democratic Executive Committee had met onTuesday, November 25, 1975, in regards to this appointment The Chairman further advised that theChairman of Democratic Executive Committee had reported the results of this meetingAt approximately 8 oclock pm, the Board of Commissioners convened into special openII session1 Appointment - Register of Deeds - To Fill Unexpired TermCommissioner Hoyt Castleberry moved to appoint Julia Ziady Curley as Register of Deedsto fill the unexpired term of W G Massey, Register of Deeds, effective January 2, 1976Commissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried by the following voteAye Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry, Commissioner Frank B Holding, Commissioner FreddieAdams, Commissioner Howard Benton and Chairman Norman C DenningNay None2 Appointment of County Tax SupervisorCommissioner Howard Benton moved that John Stott of Smithfield be employed as JohnstonCounty Tax Supervisor at an annual salary of 12,000 effective December 1, 1975, on a probationaryperiod until June 30, 1976Commissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which was carried by the followingvoteAye Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry, Commissioner Howard Benton, Commissioner FreddieAdams, Commissioner Frank B Holding and Chairman Norman C DenningNay None3 Burroughs Machine for CountyPeter McLean and Lee Horne, Burroughs Sales Representatives, met with the Board ofCommissioners regarding a tax computer for the countyThe Board discussed the capabilities of this machine at length with Kramer Jackson,County Administrator, Harper Godwin, Tax Collector, Mr Horne and Mr McLeanAfter much discussion, Commissioner Howard Benton moved that a Series L8900 BurroughsComputer be ordered for the county with the understanding that the county has ninety 90 days todecide whether to lease or purchase this machineCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which was carried unanimously4 Appointments - Health BoardUpon the recommendation of the Johnston County Health Board, Commissioner Freddie Adamsmoved that the Board of Commissioners reappoint William Clayton, Helen Smith and Charles Beddingfielto the Johnston County Board of Health for a three 3 year termCommissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the motion which was carried unanimously5 Employment - Social Services DirectorCommissioner Howard Benton advised the Board of County Commissioners that the SocialServices Board had employed Roy Morrison of Transylvania County as the new Johnston County Directorof Social Services at an annual salary of 18,000, effective January 1, 19766 Hospital Board of TrusteesCommissioner Frank B Holding moved in order to clear any confusion that may existregarding the appointments of members to the Johnston Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, thatMr Gilbert, Administrator, be advised that Frank Wells succeeds Ralph Medlin, Dr Hubert Poteatsucceeds G Willie Lee and Bennie L Williams succeeds Floyd C Price, JrCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carried unanimouslyUpon a motion by Commissioner Freddie Adams, duly secondedby Commissioner FrankB`Holding and carried unanimously the Board adjournedNorman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N Creech, ClerkJ1f
