The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Commissioners Roomof the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, December 23, 1975, at 3 oclock pm,with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and Hoyt CastleberryMember Absent Frank B HoldingCommissioner Hoyt Castleberry opened the meeting with prayerThe following business was transacted1 Contracts Awarded - Water and Sewer Facilities to New Cutler Hammer IndustryTom Moore, Ragsdale Engineers, met with the Board and reviewed the bids opened December 18,1975, at 2 oclock pm, for construction of water and sewer facilities to the new Cutler Hammer siteeast of Smithfield Mr Moore and the Board of Commissioners discussed these bids at length, afterwhich Mr Moore recommended that the contracts be awarded to the low biddersAt this time, Commissioner Freddie Adams moved that Shut Hartman Construction Company, ofClemmons, North Carolina, be awarded the contract in the amount of 199,49350 to construct water andsewer lines 16 inch water and 4 inch sewer to serve the new Cutler Hammer Industry located offHighway 70 east of SmithfieldCommissioner Adams further moved that Rogers Construction Company of Smithfield, North Carollow bidder, in the amount of 19,63400 be awarded the contract to build the sewage pumping stationat the new Cutler Hammer siteCommissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried unanimouslyAt this time, Hugh Talton, Town Manager, Town of Smithfield, talked with the Board regardinganother type pumping station other than the one advertised and bidded on and asked the Board ofCommissioners for consideration of an amendment to the contract of the pumping stationThe Board deferred any action until the January 2, 1976, board meeting2 Road Petition - Secondary Road # 1359The Board of Commissioners was presented with a road petition from property owners onSecondary Road # 1359 in Banner Township requesting that this road be pavedCommissioner Howard Benton moved that this petition be mailed to the North Carolina Departmenof Transportation and Highway Safety, Wilson, North Carolina, for considerationCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carried unanimously3 FHA Grant Agreement Cutler Hammer Industry011Commissioner Freddie Adams moved that the County of Johnston accept a Farmers Home Administratongrant of 70,000 on the Cutler Hammer Water and Sewer Facility and agree to abide by the rules andregulations of said grant Commissioner Adams further moved that the Chairman be authorized to executthis grant on behalf of the County of JohnstonCommissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried unanimously146December 23, 1975 Cont4 Appointment - Johnston Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees MemberiCommissioner Freddie Adams moved thatBobby Kenneth Jones of Princeton, N C, be appointedto the Johnston Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, this term expiring October 1, 1977Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the motion which was carried unanimouslyUpon a motion by Commissioner Freddie Adams, duly seconded by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberryand carried unanimously, the Board adjournedOft?A Norman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N Creech, lerk
