64April 7, 1975The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met as a Board of Equalization and Review, April7, 1975, in the Commissioners Room of the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina,with the following members sworn in as a member of the Board of Equalization and Review by James CWoodard, Clerk of Superior Court; at 10 oclock amFrank B Holding, Vice Chairman, Howard Benton and Hoyt CastleberryVice Chairman Frank B Holding called the meeting to orderThe following business was transactedJim Levinson, Attorney, representing the Dutch Inn, Benson, North Carolina, met with theBoard of Equalization and Review, regarding the tax value placed on this property currently valuedat 870,00000Mr Levinson stated to the Board of Equalization and Review that building C had a majorleak and surface water ran into the building because of unlevel concrete during heavy rains, preventirthe rental of about one -third of the rooms in this building Mr Levinson stated that he felt thatthis building should be appraised as a class C building rather than a class B building, therefore,he requested a one year reduction of 100,00000 on the Dutch Inn real property for 1974The Board of Equalization and Review discussed this request with Mr Jackson, CountyAdministrator and Earl Bradley, Jr, Tax AppraiserThis Board advised Mr Levinson that it did not have the legal authority to make a reductifor a one year period The Board instructed Mr Bradley to reappraise this particular building andreport back to the Board today April 7, 1975Upon motion by Commissioner Howard Benton, duly seconded by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberryand carried, the Board of Equalization and Review recessed until later during the dayAt 220 pm, of April 7, 1975 same day, the Board of Equalization and Review reconvenedand Mr Bradley reported that he had reappraised this building and it does have some water damage ofabout 10 and he favorably recommends a reduction of 10 for this building building C of the motelunit valued at 208,700, equalling a reduction of 20,87000Upon the recommendation of Mr Bradley, Tax Appraiser, Commissioner Howard Benton moved thatthe Value of Building C of the Dutch Inn Motel, Benson, North Carolina, be reduced by 10 of 208170or 20,870Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the motion which was carried unanimouslyUpon a motion by Commissioner Howard Benton, duly seconded by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberryand carried, the Board of Equalization and Review adjourned, subject to recall before or on the firstMonday in May, 1975, if necessary
