April 16, 1974 - Recessed1 3Fit width579Meeting of Board of Commissioners for County of JohnstonApril 16, 1974The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special sessionAn the Johnston CountyCommissioners Room, April 16, 1974, at 7 30 pm, with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and Hoyt CastleberryMembers Absent NoneCommissioner Freddie Adams opened the meeting with prayerThe following business was transacted1 County Proposes Water from Smithfield to Four OaksMayor Theodore, Thornton of Four Oaks and board members, along with Mayor Bob Wallace of Smith-field, appeared before the Board of Commissioners regarding the construction of a water line fromSmithfield to Four OaksTom Moore and Tim Broome, Engineers, with Ragsdale Engineers, Inc, of Smithfield, presented avery thorough preliminary cost estimate and study of running a water line from Smithfield to Four OaksThe engineers stated that the Town of Smithfield and Four Oaks could break even with potential growthand if the operation of such water line was managed properlyMr Moore stated that the deadline has passed for local applications - Wilsons MillsMr Jim Uzzle of Wilsons Mills appeared before the Board representing residents of WilsonsMills Fire District Mr Uzzle presented a petition favoring a special tax in theamount of 15c on10000 valuation for the purpose of providing fire, protection in said district and hereby respectfullyrequest the Board of Commissioners of Johnston County for an election for such a special tax in theWilsons Mills Fire DistrictCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that Wilsons Mills Fire District be authorized to hold aspecial referendum on a proposed 15? property tax for the Wilsons Mills Fire DistrictCommissioner Hoyt Castleberryseconded the motion which was carried unanimously7 Tire Slicing Machine for Johnston County LandfillRoland Hatcher, Landfill Manager, reported that he had ordered a tire slicing machine for theJohnston County Landfill from Cox Tire Machinery Company, Inc of Charlotte, N C , and that the landfillwould be accepting tires8 1 Reversible Fan on Elevated ScraperRoland Hatcher, Landfill Manager, advised the Board that the equipment operators at the landfillhad asked that a reversible fan be installed on the elevated scraper rather than an enclosed cab MrHatcher stated that the cab would cost 1;50000 and the reversible fan about 30000, which would bea savings for the countyCommissioner Howard Benton moved that the reversible fan rather than the enclosed cab beinstalled on the elevated scraperCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carried unanimously9 Eripi oyment of JanitorCommissioner Freddie Adams moved that Buck McLamb, Maintenance Supervisor, be authorized toemploy another janitor at the salary -
