572Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonApril 2, 1974The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met with the Clayton Medical Committee and otherinterested community leaders at the First National Bank, Clayton, North Carolina, 8 oclock pm, April29 1974, with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Howard Benton and Freddie AdamsMembers Absent , Hoyt CastleberryThe Board members along with the Clayton Medical Committee discussed the handicap in attractingdoctors in Clayton and other small towns in Johnston CountyThe Board indicated that it was ready to embark upon a new medical care policy for JohnstonCounty on a countywide basisThe Commissioners agreed that the Clayton community needed assistance and county financial aidin recruiting a doctor or doctors and stated that they were prepared to help other towns in thecounty in the same manner as they help the Clayton communityMr Henry Scott, Assistant Administrator, Wake Memorial Hospital, Wake County, also present atthe meeting explained how Wake County had helped recruit doctors for shall towns and communities withinWake CountyThe Clayton Medical Committee emphasized that attracting an additional doctor at Clayton willdepend greatly on providing a clinical building and a guaranteed income fora reasonable period of timeThe Board of Commissioners further agreed and committed to the Clayton Medical Committee, countyfunds up to 50,000, on a 50 -50 matching basis for construction and equipping of a medical building tobe used by practicing physicians, and also agreed to provide county financial support for a guaranteedsalary of a physician as much as 12,00000 for the first year, 8,00000 for the second year and4,00000 for the third yearThe Clayton Medical Committee praised the Board of County Commissioners for their support andinterest ift Claytons medical problemUpon a motion by Commissioner Howard Benton, duly seconded by-Commissioner Frank B Holding,and carried, the Board recessed to meet again April 169 1974, at 730 pmNorman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N Creech Clerk? l
