2Fit width481Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonMay 30, 1973The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Auditors Office ofthe Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, Wednesday, May 30, 1973, at 8 oclock pm,with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and HoytCastleberryMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Selma Rescue Squad RequestMr David Edwards, Captain, and other members of the Selma Rescue Squad and members of theJohnston County Rescue Squad Association asked the Board of Commissioners for the courtesy of 10,000to help finish the construction of the Selma Rescue Squad building and to replace its ambulance thathad been wrecked Mr Edwards further explained that the ambulance awas a ,total Noss andthey only had one ambulance vehicle The 10,000 was desparately needed to put the Selma Squad backin operationMr Edwards also commented that the Selma Squad had answered 240 calls from January 1 toMay 28th - a total of 700 man hoursThe Board advised the Selma Squad members that they would give this matter seriousconsideration2 Day Care Center for Mentally Retarded - Budget RequestMrs Peter Hulth, Chairman, Board of Directors, Johnston County Day Care Center for MentallyRetarded Children, appeared before the Board and presented the Day Care Centers budget request of17,856 from County funds for the fiscal year 1973 -74 Mrs Hulth explained that the reason for anincrease in County funds was because federal funds had been cut for 1973 -74 for the Day Care CenterMrs Hulth also advised the Board that additional money was needed to finance the operation of amini-bus and a summer recreation program for the childrenThe Board took no action on this request at this time pending further budget study3 Mental Health Budget Request for 1973 -74Mr Fred Wright, Administrator, Johnston County Mental Health Center, along with MentalHealth Board members, appeared before the Board of Commissioners requesting funds for the operationof the Mental Health Center for the fiscal year 1973 -74 Mr Wright had included in his budget requestfunds to activate the in- patient services at the Mental Health Center The Board asked Mr Wrightfor a break -down of in- patient and out - patient requests, and took no action on his budget at thistime4 Johnston Technical Institute Budget Request - 1973 -74Mr Stanley Peele, Finance Chairman, Johnston Technical Institute Board of Trustees, alongwith other board members and Dr John Tart, President, appeared before the Board and presented theirbudget request for the fiscal year 1973 -74The Board took no action pending further budget study5 County Treasurer - Budget RequestMrs Rosa Gilbert, Treasurer, appeared before the Board and presented her budget requestfor the fiscal year 1973 -74The Board took no action pending further budget work6 Veterans Service Officer - Budget RequestL P Creech, Veterans Service Officer, appeared before the Board and presented his budgetrequest for the fiscal year 1973 -74 lThe Board of Commissioners took no action at this time7 Tax Collector - Budget RequestHarper Godwin, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and presented his budget requestfor 1973 -74The Board took no action pending further budget studyA 82May 30, 1973 Cont8 Forest Service - Budget RequestH J Whitley,-Forest Ranger, appeared before the Board and presented the Forest Service budgetrequest of 17,273 for the fiscal year 1973-74,The Board took no action pending further budget work9 Sales Tax Collections to Water and Sewer Account - Budget AmendmentCommissioner Freddie Adams moved that the General Fund Budget be amended by appropriating100,00000 from excessive sales tax collections above anticipation and appropriating to the Water andSewer Account 1058073Commissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried unanimously10 Triangle J Council of Governments - Due for 1973 -74Commissioner Howard Benton called to the attention of the Board that the Triangle J Councilof Governments, was requesting_13467 dues from Johnston County for 1973 -74 and that the Council wouldlike reaction fromJohnstonCounty so they could prepare their budget Commissioner Benton commentedthat he had no recommendations to the Board on this matterThe Board took no action at this time on this matterUpon a motion by Commissioner Freddie Adams, duly seconded by Commissioner Frank B Holdingand carried the Board adjournedNorman C Denning, Chairmanleanor N Creec , Clerk
