I msMeeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonJune T, 1973The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Auditors Office of theJohnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, Thursday, June 7, 1973, at 8 oclock pm, withthe following members present -Norman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and Hoyt CastleberryMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Additional Budget Request - Johnston Memorial Hosptal AdministrationMr Lloyd Gilbert, Administrator, and Bob Terrell, Assistant Administrator, appeared before theBoard again stating that the hospital is in need of some new equipment Mr Gilbert further statedthat much of this old equipment has been in use for some 21 years - and presented the Board with a listof the most urgently needed itemsThe Board reviewed this request with Mr Gilbert very carefully, but took no official actionat this time pending further budget work and study2 Tax Refund - Russell Avery McLamb - Property OvervaluedHarper Godwin, Tax Collector, explained by letter, that the 1971 appraised value of land ownedby Russell Avery McLamb of Banner Township was overvalued for the years 1963 through 1970, and he feelsthat an adjustment should be made for these years It was further noted that Mr McLambs taxes werepaid through 1972, a balance due being paid on June 4, 1973After review and upon the recommendation of Harper Godwin, Tax Collector, Commissioner HowardBenton moved that Russell Avery McLamb be refunded in the amount of 16680 due to the appraised valuebeing in excess of true land value for the years 1963 through 1970 This refund to be made after MrMcLambs check of June 4, 1973 has clearedCommissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the-motion which was carried unanimouslyMr Carl Bagley, Soil Conservation Board Member, spoke to the Board on behalf of Roland Hatcherwho the Board of Commissioners is considering for work with the Johnston County Landfill operation3 Pay Increase to Officer of Grand JuryCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Officer of the Grand Jury be paid 1200 per dayeffective July 1, 1973 Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the motion which was carried unanimously,4 Budget WorkThe Board of Commissioners continued work on the 1973 - 1974 budgeterUpon a motion by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry, duly seconded by Commission Howard Benton andcarried the Board recessed to meet again Tuesday, June 12, 1973, at 8 oclock pmEleanor ,N Cre h, Clerk
