June 12, 1973 - Recessed1 2Fit widthM #Meeting of Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonThe Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Auditors Office ofthe Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, Tuesday, June 12,1973, at 8 oclock pm,with the following members presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton and Hoyt CastleberryMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Triangle J Council of GovernmentsMr Pearson Stewart, Director, Triangle J Council of Governments, met with the Board ofCommissioners in effort to explain what Triangle J is doing for Johnston County, and the region itrepresents Region J, Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Lee, Orange and Wake CountiesMr Stewart told the Board that the Councils work involved long -range planning for all countiesmaking up Region J and stated that the council was so young that at this point it has provided fewTangible Benefits for Johnston County, however, they are working on projects that will benefit Johnston470County and other counties in this region in the futureMr Stewart further stated that Region J is not a regional governing , bod -y, but an associationof cities and countiesTriangle J Council of Governments Ls asking for dues from Johnston County for 1973 -74 in theamount of 13,467 compared to 9,000 approved for 1972 -73 Mr Stewart stated that the reason for thisincrease was because of a cut in federal fundingThe Board discussed this matter at length with Mr,Stewart and tentatively approved 9,000 forTriangle J Council of Governments for 1973 -742 Vic Ogburn - Waste Disposal CompanyThe Board of Commissioners talked at length with Vic Ogburn, Waste Disposal Company,- Smithf iel,d,North Carolina, regarding a solid waste ,disposal program for Johnston County3 Dog Warden - BudgetThe Board talked with Rubert Barbour, Dog Warden, regarding his budget request for 1973 -19744 Markin of Parking Lot I IMr James C Woodard, CSC, reported to the Board that The Town of Smithfield would mark -offthe County parking lots for 12540 plus the paintAfter discussion, the Board decided to contact the State Highway Commission about this matter5 Repair to Bathrooms in Basement of CourthouseMr James C W ooard discussed with the Board the,poor condition of the bathrooms in thebasement of the CourthouseAfter discussion and the Board realizing the situation, authorized Mr Woodard to,get estimatesfor repairs to the bathrooms in the basement of the Courthouse and report back to the Board6 BudZet WorkThe Board of Commissioners continued work on the 1973 - 1974 budgetUpon motion by Commissioner -Hoyt Castleberry, seconded by Commissioner Freddie Adams andcarried the Board recessed to meet again Tuesday, June 19,, 1973, at 7 oclock pms __CLEleanor N ?CrcLeth, Clerk
