December 18, 1973The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Commissioners Roomof the Johnston County Courthouse, Tuesday, December 18, 19739 at 9 oclock am, with the followingmembers presentNorman C Denning, Chairman, Freddie Adams, Howard Benton, Hoyt Castleberry and Frank B HoldingMembers Absent NoneCommissioner Freddie Adams opened the meeting with prayerThe following business was transacted1 Lease on County Property - Kathy LancasterThe Board talked with Mrs Kathy Lancaster regarding the continuation of her lease on a buildingowned by the county Mrs Lancaster leased this property from Dr Davidian before the county purchasedthe propertyMrs Lancaster asked the Board of Commissioners if they would give her at least a ninety 90day notice before terminating her lease on this buildingThe Board agreed that this was a very reasonable request and asked Mrs Lancaster to come backbefore her lease expired2, Insurance on Landfill Equi2mentThe Board talked with Roland Hatcher, Landfili Manager, regarding insurance on the equipmentat the landfill The Board asked Mr Hatcher to check on liability insurance for this equipment alsoThe Board further instructed the Clerk to contact Max Creech, Insurance Agentl for the County,at this time, and ask him to meet with the Board with information and cost on liability for the countybuildings3 Countys Payment of Claytons Share of Water Line to CutterCommissioner Howard Benton moved that the County of Johnston pay Claytonls,share or 20,000 forinstallation of water lines,to Cutter directly to J P Rogers Construction Company, Smithfield, NorthCarolina, provided that the Town of Clayton had not already paid J P RogersCommissioner Hoyt Castleberry seconded the motion which was carried40 Request from Corbett-Hatcher Community for Recreation FundsMr J Herman Brown appeared before the Board and requested a grant for recreation funds forthe Corbett-Hatcher Community Mr Brown related that this community had already done some work, however,they need to do more and need additional equipment Mr Brown further stated that the community hadsome money on hand, but he was not sure how much was available at this time for recreationTh-e Board expressed much interest in Mr Browns request and asked him to submit a writtenapplication to file with the Board by January 7,1 1974Mr Brown, who has recently been appointed as a trustee to the Board of Trustees of the PublicLibrary of Johnston C-ounty and Smithfield, thanked the Board for th6ir-,confidenco_ in-_hiM-Mr Brown also made a recommendation to the Board for a replacement for Mr M W Knott, whohas submitted his resignation as County Electrical Inspector The Board thanked Mr Brown for thisrecommendationUpon a motion by Commissioner Hoyt Castleberry, duly seconded by Commissioner Howard Benton theBoard adjournedNorman C Denning, ChairmanEleanor N Creech Clerki
