034August 15, 1983The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special called session Monday,August 15, 1983, at 9 oclock am, in the Commissioners Room of the Johnston CountyCourthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, with the following members presentDVMFrank B Holding, Vice Chairman, James W Cash, Howard Benton and John M Booker,Member Absent Norman C Denning, ChairmanThe Vice Chairman called the meeting to order and the following business wastransacted1 Water Problem — Town of PrincetonKramer Jackson, County Manager, explained to the board he had visited Princetonand learned they had a serious water problem The County Manager explained that Princetonis having to fill and empty the water tank for purification and with the normal dailyusage this will leave Princeton with water problemsThis being a dry summer Princetons wells are not producing enough water to supplythe towns needs, and also it was noted that the new Nello Teer Rock Quarry could belowering Princetons water tablePrinceton Mayor A C Edwards, and town board members, spoke on the subject thatPrincetons growth is hindered because of their water problems, and also advised theboard the water need will double when school startsTim Broome, Tom Moore and Gerald Horton of Ragsdale Consultants, reviewed withthe board costs for running the water line to Princeton Mr Broome advised the boardof methods of emergency treatment of water for Princeton in case it becomes necessaryAfter much discussion, Commissioner Howard Benton moved that the engineers RagsdaleConsultants be authorized to proceed with engineering plans to run a water line fromPine Level to Princeton and further that the County Manager be authorized to review engineer-ing feesCommissioner James W Cash seconded the motion which was carriedThe board at this time also instructed the County Manager to work with MayorEdwards to see that Princeton does not run out of water Tom Moore of Ragsdale Consultants,also offered their services if needed to check the wells for water supply2 Indigent Cost — Wake CountyThe County Manager called to the boards attention a letter from Wake Countyregarding costs of treatment of indigents in the Wake County Hospital,; System, and thatWake County is seeking payment of these costsThere being no further business to come before the board at this time, the meetingwas adjournedp ?? -l•?
