Optimist Club of SmithfieldCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Optimist Club of Smithfieldbe granted permission to hold a fireworks display at Bingham Park, Smithfield,NC, in celebration of the 4th of JulyCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carried3 Fireworks Display - Town of ClaytonCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Town of Clayton be grantedpermission to hold a fireworks display on July 4, 1984, at the Clayton RecreationPark BallfieldCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carried4 Dispatching for the Town of Ken I yCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that the Sheriffs Department,with one additional dispatcher, be authorized to dispatch fire, rescue andpolice calls for the Town of Ken I y, subject to the Town of Ken I y paying JohnstonCounty 7,500 per year until such time as the Communications Center is movedfrom its present location, and subject to the Town of Kenly paying for therequired communications equipment to enable dispatching from the present centerin the CourthouseCommissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried byunanimous vote5 Fire Protection Contract - Town of Benson Banner Fire DistrictUpon a motion by Commissioner Howard Benton, duly seconded by Com-missioner James W Cash and carried, the following contract was approvedand the Chairman authorized to execute same;NORTH CAROLINAJOHNSTON COUNTYTHIS CONTRACT, made and entered into this 11th day of June, 1984,by and between the Town of Benson, a municipal corporation, and the Countyof Johnston;140June 11, 1984 ContinuedWITNESSETHThat for and in consideration of the mutual covenants hereinafter contained,and pursuant to authority granted to GS 69 -255 and GS 69 -256, the Townof Benson and the County of Johnston do hereby covenant and agree as follows1 The County of Johnston agrees to FY 1984 -198 -5 to levy and collect uponall taxable property lying within the boundaries of Banner Rural Fire Protection ETax District an ad valorem property tax equal to 06 cents per 100 valuation,and to pay the same to the Town of Benson2 The Town of Benson agrees to furnish and provide continuing fire protectionservice to all property lying within the boundaries of the Banner Rural FireProtection Tax District, by dispatching upon call of any resident or propertyowner within the district equipment, contingent upon availability, consistingof a 1950 Ford 1000 gal tanker, a 1960 Ford 500 gpm pumper, a 1975 Ford 750gpm pumper, a 1976 Chevrolet fire equipment truck and a 1983 Chevrolet 1250gal pumper tanker3 The Tax Collector of the County of Johnston shall collect the ad valoremtaxes so levied and shall make payment of the same to the Town of Benson quarterlyas collections are made4 The obligation of the Town of Benson to respond to calls under this contractshall be subordinate to its duty to furnish and provide fire protection withinits corporate limits, and the decision of the Fire Chief of Benson as to whetherto respond to such a call shall be final and conclusive5 This contract may be terminated by either party at the end of any fiscal 1year by giving 180 days written notice of its intent to so terminate to the otherparty by registered or certified mailIN WITNESSwhereofthe Town ofBenson has caused these presents to besigned in its nameby itsMayor, andattested by its Clerk, and the County ofJohnston has caused thesepresents tobe signed in its name by the Chairmanand attested by theClerk ofits Board ofCommissionersThis the 11thday ofJune 1984TOWN OF BENSONCharles W MatthewsATTESTCarolyn A Nordan COUNTY OF JOHNSTONNorman C DenningChairmanATTESTEleanor N CreechClerk6 Subdivision -
