August 15, 1972The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Auditors Office of theJohnston County Courthouse, Tuesday, August 15, 1972,, at 8 oclock pm, with the following memberspresentJ Dobbin Bailey, Chairman, Norman C Denning, Frank B Holding, Freddie Adams and Howard BentonMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Discussion - Water Line to Benson MotelAt the regular meeting August 7, 1972, the Board of County Commissioners was approached by agroup from Benson asking financil aid to run a water line to a new proposed motel at Benson The Boardasked Commissioner Howard Benton to study this matter and bring recommendations back to the Board ofCommissionersAfter discussion of how the Board could help the Town of Benson extend a water line to the motel,Commissioner Howard Benton proposed that the County consider funding half the cost of a 2,400 foot waterline extension that would become part of the county wide water system Commissioner Benton stated thathalf the cost was estimated at less than 10,000 Commissioner Benton reminded the Board that thiswater line would do a great deal more than accommodate the motel, it would help develop a large areaoutside the Town of BensonThe Board discussed this matter at length, and again asked Commissioner Howard Benton to conferfurther with Benson officials and engineers and determine the difference in the cost of a 6 -inch and12 -inch water line to the Benson motel and report back to the Board2 Paving Johnston County Rescue So,uad LotCommissioner Norman C Denning reported to the Board that John Herring of the Johnston CountyRescue Squad had approached him regarding the paving of the Johnston County Rescue Squad lotCommissioner Denning was instructed to work withMr Herring in getting prices on paving3 Appointment - Smithfield Zoning Board of AdjustmentCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that B M Dupree and Robert Johnson be re-appointed to theSmithfield Zoning Board of Adjustment for three year terms expiring August, 1975Commissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried unanimouslyUpon a motion by Commissioner Norman C Denning and duly seconded by Commissioner Freddie Adamsthe Board adOVrued sleanor N Cree , Clerk J Dobbin Bailey, Chairmant?4?I
