The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the Commissioners Roomof the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, February 19, 1970, at 730 pm, with thefollowing members presentJ Dobbin Bailey, Chairman, Norman C Denning, Frank B Holding, Adam J Whitley, Jr andFreddie AdamsMembers Absent NoneThe following business was transacted1In response to an invitation from the Board of County Commissioners, several mayors, fire chiefsand rescue squad members representing every town in the County met with the Board of Commissioners anddiscussed the rescue squad situation in the CountyAfter a long lengthy discussion it was decided by all those present that it would be advisablefor the rescue squads of Clayton, Kenly, Four Oaks, Benson and the Civil Defense Rescue Squad of Smith -field to meet jointly and discuss their mutual problems and come up with some concrete way in which theCounty and municipalities could help them2 Salary Increase - Robert Miller - Department of Social ServicesMrs Edith Park, Director, Department of Social Services, advised the Board thatRobert Millerhad been stepped up in classification and asked that his salary be increased from 46500 to 48700permonth, effective January 1, 1970Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that Mrs Parks request be granted6r175February 19, 1970 ContCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion which was carried3 Rent of Office Space for Food Stamp ProgramCommissioner Adam J Whitley, Jr moved that the Board of County Commissioners rent an officefrom James E Wilson, Jr, in the building formerly occupied by the ASC office, to be used by theDepartment of Social Services for the operation of the Food Stamp Program The rent is to be 11500per month, with Mr Wilson furnishing heat, lights, air conditioning; and to paint the officeThe motion was seconded by Commissioner Freddie Adams and was carriedUpon a motion by Commissioner Adam J Whitley, Jr and seconded by Commissioner Norman CDenning the Board adjourned?W H ?Ilrritt, Clerk
