State Highway CommissionMr W H Pridgen and Paul Anderson with the State Highway Commission made their bi- monthlyvisit to the Board and discussed various problems16 Moccasin Creek Drainage DistrictFloyd C Price, Jr, a member of the Moccasin Creek Drainage District Board of Directors,requested the Board of County Commissioners to appropriate sufficient funds to finance certain-maintenance for this fiscal yearAfter quite a bit of discussion, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that if and when theproposed maintenance work was completed and a bill received, the County appropriate and donate to theMoccasin Creek Drainage District Board of Directors up to, but not over, 2,00000Commissioner Adam J Whitley, Jr seconded the motion which was carried17 Payments to Rescue SquadsAfter a long discussion with Wilson Broadwell, Civil Defense Director, regarding the variousRescue Squads in the County, it was determined that the County should make a 10000 per monthcontribution to each of the following Rescue Squads, and W H Britt, Auditor, was instructed to makethese contributions retro- active to July 1, 1970, as appropriated in the 1970 -1971 County BudgetJohnston County Civil Defense Rescue SquadClayton Rescue SquadBenson Rescue SquadKenly Rescue SquadFour Oaks Rescue Squad18 Resolution - Mrs Rosa W Gilbert - Candidate for County TreasurerCommissioner Adam J Whitley, Jr moved that the following resolution be adoptedBE IT RESOLVED by the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, that in view of the factthere is no Republican opposition in the General Election for County Treasurer, andfurther that since the Board has definitely stated that it would request special legislaticnin the next session of the legislature to abolish the Office of County Treasurer, nowrecommend to the Johnston County Democratic Executive Committee that Rosa W Gilbert benominated and her name placed on the ballot in the General Election as the DemocraticCandidate for County Treasurer to serve subject to the date of abolishmentCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which was carried unanimously19 Employment Security Commission RepresentativesMayor John Dail, Smithfield, appeared before the Board, along with Mr Jim Filipski,Administrative Area Supervisor, with the Employment Security Commission and Mr Leroy Singleton, Managerof the Raleigh Office, and discussed the possibility of a full -time office in Smithfield Mr Singletonadvised the Board, to set up a full -time office his department would expect sufficient space, utilities,heat, air conditioning and local telephone serviceAfter the discussion with Mr Singleton and Mr Filipski, the Board expressed its interestin the proposition and as a result, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that Commissioner Adam JWhitley, Jr be authorized to work with the Employment Security Commission representatives and theTown of Smithfield in securing satisfactory office spaceCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carriedUpon a motion by Commissioner Frank B Holding and duly seconded by Commissioner FreddieAdams the Board adjournedNorman C Denning, Vice Chairm4W H Britt, Clerk
