Ad Valorem Tax CollectionsThe County Manager reported that ad valorem tax collections are aboutat the same rate as December, 1982, about 60 collected9 Workmens Compensation PolicyIn discussion of a Workmens Compensation Policy for Johnston County,the County Manager told the board that Johnston County has been self insuredfor approximately seven years wring this period, the county has paid out approxi-mately 63,000 in vorI has paid 37,175 to one individual The workmens compensation to this individualcould well be in excess of 350,000 At the present time, the county has 140,000set aside for self insurance The County Manager further explained that NashCounty, a county the size of Johnston County with similar characteristics, purchased a workmens compensation policy through the North Carolina Association of CountyCommissioners The annual premium for Nash County was 22,940 Nash Countyanticipates receiving a 44 dividend leaving the county with a net cost of 12,846as the annual premium It was also explained to the board, that Johnston Countycan remain self insured and assume total liability for workers claims or the countycan purchase Workmens Compensation Insurance The manager recommended thecounty purchase a Workmens Compensation Insurance policy through the NorthCarolina Association of County Commissioners immediatelyAfter discussion, the board authorized the County Manager to proceedwith plans for purchasing Workmens Compensation Insurance through the NorthCarol ina Association of County Commissioners, and to report back to the boardwith information and cost10 State Building Code -
