December 18, 1985The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session Wednesday,December 18, 1985, at 12 oclock noon, in the Commissioners Room, JohnstonCounty Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, with the following members presentFrank B Holding, Vice Chairman, James W Cash, Howard Benton andJohn M Booker, DVMMember Absent Norman C Denning, ChairmanAlso present Kramer Jackson, County Manager and Eleanor N Creech,Clerk to the BoardThe Vice Chairman called the meeting to orderThe purpose of this special meeting is to consider the acquisition of realpropertyCommissioner Howard Benton moved the board go into Executive Sessionto discuss the acquisition of real propertyCommissioner John M Booker seconded the motion which was carriedChairman Norman C Denning was contacted by telephone and enteredinto the discussionCommissioner James W Cash moved that Executive Session be closed andthe board resume regular sessionCommissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carriedIECommissioner Holding stated that James W Narron, Attorney, has offeredto sell his property located at 206 Johnston Street, Smithfield, to the countyfor 85,000 There is approximately 3,000 square feet of improved office spacethe county can use and incorporate into the new Courthouse AnnexAfter discussion, Commissioner James W Cash moved the County Managerbe authorized to give James W Narron, Attorney, a letter of commitment fromthe county stating that the board has agreed to purchase his property locatedat 206 Johnston Street for 85,000 during 1986Commissioner Howard Benton seconded the motion which was carried byunanimous vote Chairman Denning voted aye by telephoneThe County Manager was also instructed by the board to secure a letterof commitment to sell from Mr NarronUpon a motion by Commissioner John M Booker, duly seconded by CommissionerJames W Cash and carried the board adjournedFrank B Holding, Vice ChairmanEleanor N Creech, Clerk to the Board
