June 6, 1968The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special session in the AuditorsOffice in the Johnston County Courthouse, June 6, 1968, 730 P M, with the following memberspresentH M Johnson, Chairman, J Dobbin Bailey, Norman C Denning, Adam J Whitley, andFrank B HoldingAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Department of WelfareMr Hoyt Castleberry, Chairman of the Board of Public Welfare, along with Mrs EdithPark, Director, presented to and reviewed with the Board the tentative 1968 -1969 budget fortheir department No action was taken pending further study2 Mental Health DepartmentMr John D Wilson, Psychologist with the Mental Health staff, appeared before theBoard and presented a tentative budget for 1968 -1969 The budget was reviewed and discussedat length, and no action was taken pending further study3 Ambulance ReportMr Lloyd Gilbert appeared before the Board and explained the progress that he had madeand the information that he had collected pertaining to the ambulance program Mr Gilbertfurther stated that the County might be able to Work out an agreement whereby the County couldrent or lease the ambulances necessary to adequately serve the citizens of Johnston CountyAfter much discussion, the Board expressed its willingness to go along with Mr Gilbertssuggested programMr Gilbert stated that he would negotiate with the companies that he had been in contactwith and report back to the Board at its next meeting4 Chairman -__County Extension ServiceC W Tarlton came before the Board and reviewed his departments 1968 -1969 tentativebudget No action was taken pending further study5 Courthouse Department HeadsRayford Oliver, Sheriff, L P Creech, Veterans Service Officer, and Harper Godwin,Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and reviewed their 1968 -1969 budget requests at lengthThe Board gave each member of the group the opportunity to present his individualrequest, which they didNo action wastaken pending further study Upon a motion by Commissioner Holding and seconded by Commissioner Bailey, the Boardrecessed until 730 P M, Tuesday, June 11, 1968, for the purpose of further budget studyChalimanClerk ?? _p
