58Meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of JohnstonJune 11, 1968The Johnston County Board of Commissioners met in special Session in the Auditors Officein the Johnston County Courthouse, Smithfield, North Carolina, June 11, 1968, at 730 P M, withthe following members presentH MJohnson,,Chairman, J Dobbin Bailey, Norman C Denning, Frank B Holding, andAdam J Whitley, JrAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Board of EducationMr Harold Medlin, Chairman of the Board of Education, Dr Donnie Jones, Jr, member,and Mr E W Ellis, Member, along with Mr E S Simpson, Superintendent of Public Instructionpresented and explained its tentative budget for the fiscal year1968- 1969 2 Civil Defense AgencyWilson Diggs Broadwell, Civil Defense Director met with the Board and presented andreviewed his 1968 -1969 budget requests3 Ambulance ReportMr Lloyd Gilbert and Mr Wilson Broadwell appeared before the Board and reported thatthey had been in touch with companies again about vehicles the County is proposing to purchaseto provide ambulance serviceMr Gilbert gave a full report on models and prices of vehicles available for purchaseor lease Mr Gilbert and Mr Broadwell also stated they would be glad to go and inspectcoaches the Commissioners were interested inCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that Mr Gilbert and Mr Broadwell be authorizedand directed to use their own judgement, as far as price and model, and to purchase or leasetwo vehicles,,to beused as ambulances for the County of JohnstonThe motion was seconded by Commissioner Bailey and carried unanimously4 Bid - Radio Equipment Ambulance ServiceCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that Wilson Broadwell be authorized and directedto advertise for the purchase of two -way radio equipment and installations consisting of nine9 base stations and eleven 11 mobile unitsto be operated on a special emergency frequencyfor ambulance - service in Johnston CountyCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion which carried unanimously5 Courthouse - Department HeadsW G Massey, Register of Deeds, James C Woodard, Clerk of Superior Court, and J NarvinCreech, Treasurer, appeared before the Board and reviewed their 1968 -1969 budget-requests atlengthThe Board gave each member of the group the opportunity to present his individualrequest, which they did6 Appointment - Vacation and Sick LeaveCommitteeCommissioner Norman C Denning moved that James C Woodard, Clerk of Superior Court,C W Tarlton, and Commissioner J Dobbin Bailey, the Committee appointed on May 6, 1968,to study the Holiday schedule, also be instructed to study and recommend a policy on vacationand sick leave for County employeesCommissioner Frank B Holding seconded the motion which carried7 Roof - Mitchiner BuildingCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that W H Britt, Clerk, be authorized to have theroof on the office of Albert A Corbett, Attorney, repaired, or a new roof, whichever, he feelsnecessaryCommissioner Adam J Whitley seconded the motion which carried unanimously8 Re- Appointment - Library Board MembersCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that Mrs J J Boyette and Mr James Ellerbe bere- appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield,for a term of three years, effective July 1, A`9i8,,Commissioner J Dobbin Bailey seconded the motion which carried unanimouslyCommissioner Bailey moved that the meeting be recessed until Wednesday, June 12, 1968,at 730 P M for the purpose of further budget study 1 T A-Commission ,,r Denning seconded the motion which carried tClerkChairmakn
