Chairman of the Joint BoardDr Donnie Jones, Jr seconded the motion which carriedW H Britt, Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners, was appointed secretaryto the Joint Board by the Chairman2 Extension Unit - Community CollegeMr E S Simpson, Superintendent of Public Schools in Johnston County,discussed withthe Joint Board plans for making application to the State Board of Education for theestablishment of an Extension Unit of the Community College System in Johnston County, andadvised that it would be necessary to have several committees to function in connectionwith The Preliminary Survey for the Establishment of the Extension Unit of the CommunityCollege System He further advised that the Joint Board could appoint a Steering Committeewhich in turn would appoint other committees, or could appoint both the Steering Committeeand other committee members Mr Simpson recommended the adoption of six committees, namelyI EnrollmentII Special ConsultantsIII LegislativeIV Educational StatusV FinanceVI Publicity and Public RelationsA list of suggested names of each committee was also presented3 Dr Donnie Jones moved that the Board adopt the recommendation to appoint the sixabove listed committees The motion was seconded by Mr Grantham and carried4 Mr Denning moved that the Board appoint a Steering Committee Mr Grantham secondedthe motion which carried5 Mr Denning moved that M B Wilson of Smithfield be appointed to the SteeringCommittee and designated as Chairman The motion was seconded by Mr Grantham and carried6 Mr Grantham moved that J C Woodard of Selma be appointed to the Steering Committeeand be designated as Vice Chairman The motion was seconded by Mr Denning and carried7 Mr Medlin made a- motion that Sarah Ann Sasser be appointed to the Steering Committeeand be designated as Secretary The motion was seconded by Mr Denning and carried8 Dr Donnie Jones moved that the Board approve the appointment of M B Wilson,J C Woodard, and Sarah Ann Sasser as members composing the Steering Committee Mr Baileyseconded the motion which carried unanimouslyDr Donnie Jones moved that the name oflist of names composing the Special Consultantswhich carried9 Mr Medlin moved that the name of M Wnames for the Finance Committee The motion wa10 Mr Denning moved that the name of Mrsnames suggested for the Legislative CommitteecarriedJohn Shallcross be added to the suggestedCommittee Mr Grantham seconded the motionStancil be added to the suggested list ofs seconded by Dr Jones and carriedJane Cunningham be added to the list ofThe motion was seconded by Dr Jones and11 Mr Medlin moved that the names of Mrs Mayo Tart, D R Wells, Hugh Beasley,andLuther Johnson be added to the suggested list of names for the Publicity and Public RelationsCommittee The motion was seconded by Mr Denning and carried12 Mr Ellis moved that the names of Mrs Rudolph Allen, Lacy Coats, J T Wilkins,Charlie Crone, and Hoyt Castleberry be added to the list of names suggested for thePublicity and Public Relations Committee The motion was seconded by Mr Boyette andcarried13 Mr Boyette moved that the names of C Marvin Atkinson, Russel Lee Peele, Johnnie BOneal, and J E Rogerson be added to the list of names suggested for the Publicity andPublic Relations Committee The motion was seconded by Mr Bailey and carried14 Mr Grantham moved that the name of E J Corbett, Jr be added to the list ofnames suggested for the Publicity and Public Relations Committee The motion was secondedby Mr Denning and carried15 Dr Donnie Jones moved that the-names of Jimmy Rhodes and M J Oliver be added tothe list of names suggested for the Publicity and Public Relations Committee The motionwas seconded by Mr Denning and carried16 Mr Denning moved that the names of Nathan Sykes, Gerald Isley, John Schreibeis,and R F Sambleson be added to the list of names suggested for the Special ConsultantsCommittee The motion was seconded by Mr Whitley and carried17 ResolutionDr Donnie Jones, Jr moved that the following resolution be adoptedRESOLUTION APPROVING THE ORGANIZATION OF THE STEERING COMMITTEEFOR A JOHNSTON COUNTY UNIT OF THE NORTH CAROLINA COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEMWHEREAS, An organization has been formed, and related working committees have beencreated, for the purpose of establishing in Johnston County a unit of the Community CollegeSystem which subsequently will progress to the second stage in which it will become aTechnical Institute, and from that into the ultimate creation of a Comprehensive CommunityCollege, thus providing for the citizens of Johnston County an opportunity for industrialand academic training on the Junior College level; andWHEREAS, This committee, to be known as theSteering Committee of the JohnstonExtension Unit of the Community College System, will hold meetings as needed for the purposeof implementing this application; andWHEREAS, Much of the necessary information required for inclusion in a formalproposal to be made to the State Board of Education has already been compiled by the staffof the Superintendent of Schools; andWHEREAS, It is the desire and judgment of the Board of Commissioners and the Boardof Education of Johnston County to give impetus to this much needed program by appointing,endorsing, and approving the organization of the Steering Committee and various sub - committeesas set forth hereinafter for
