# 1742Mr J W Boykin, Route # 1, Wendell, N C Wilders Township presented the Boardwith a petition for paving road# 1742, priority # 124 Mr Boykin stated there were eightdwellings on this road, a church and it was also a mail and school bus routeThe Board informed Mr Boykin that Mr,Pridgen, District Engineer with the StateHighway Commission would -be at the meeting in the afternoon and his petition would be presentedto him with their recommendationsII 7 Addition to Secondary Road SystemMr Charles Wade Holloway from Clayton Township presented to the Board a petitionrequesting that a road in the White Pine Development, ? mile in length and eleven propertyowners, three miles out of Clayton, be added to the County Secondary Road ProgramCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that this request be approved and that thepetition be mailed to the State Highway Commission inWilson, N C8 Request for Improvements - Brogden RoadMr L T Thompson and Mr Thurman - Barbour, property owners on a certain section ofthe Brogden Road, just west of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in the Town of Smithfield,appeared before the Board requesting any assistance that could be obtained to influence theState Highway Commission to improve that section of this roadThe Board assured Mr Thompson and Mr Barbour that it would cooperate in any waypossible9 Deputies CarsCommissioner Frank B Holding made a motion that W H Britt, Auditor be authorizedand directed to work with Sheriff Rayford Oliver and Commissioner Freddie Adams in drawingspecifications for automobiles for the Sheriffs Department and advertise same for bidproposals, said bids to be opened at the next regular meeting of the Board or as soon aspossibleCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion which was carried unanimously10 Mileage to New DeputiesAt tbeerequest of Sheriff Rayford Oliver, Commissioner- Norman C Denning moved thattwo deputies, Franklin Price and Charles Hicks, beginning their duties December 2, 1968, bepaid for the use of their personal cars at the rate of 70 per mile until new cars can bepurchasedCommissioner Freddie Adams seconded the motion which was carried unanimously11 District Court Bailiffs - SalariesAt they request of Sheriff Rayford Oliver, Commissioner Frank B Holding moved thatthe salaries of the district court bailiffs be set at 1500 ppr dayCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion which was carried12 Federal Aid - Law and OrderSheriff Rayford Oliver informed the Board that the County was eligible to apply to theState of North Carolna, Governors Committee on Law and Order for financial assistance in acooperative programDecember 2, 1968 ContAfter a discussion, Sheriff Oliver was requested to-further investigate this cooperativprogram and ascertain to what extent such program would involve the Federal Government13 County JailorSheriff Rayford Oliver informed the Board that he had employed a man to fill the vacancyof Jailor, beginning January 1, 196914 West Smithfield Sanitary DistrictCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that W H Britt, Tax Supervisor be instructed toWest 1assist the We t Smithfie d Sanitary istrict Board in securing the total tax value of thisY 9district This information is needed in order for the Sanitary District Board to makerapplication for Federal Aid in financing sewer in this areaMotion was seconded by Commissioner Norman C Denning and carried15 Mr Hartwell CampbellMr Hartwell Campbell, who was recently elected one of the representativesof theFifteenth House District, of North Carolina, met with the Board and expressed his appreciationfor the support of the people of Johnston County and offered his assistance to the Board ofCommissioners relative to any interested legislation that might come up in the next legislature16 Abandonment of Portion of RoadMr W H Pridgen, District Engineer with the State HighwayBoard that a section of State Road # 2358, 1 of,mile inlength wasfor abandonment and ask the approval of the Board of County CommissCommissioner Norman C Denning moved that the Board approvesection of SR 2358 as requested, subject to Wayne Countys approvalof mile of same road extending into the County of WayneCommission, advised thein the Highways plansionersthe abandonment of thisof the abandonment of 3Motion was seconded by Commissioner Adam J Whitley and was carried17 Water Line to Allied MillsTom Moore,, with Ragsdale Engineers, advised the Board that theTown of Selma hadreceived and let the bids on the installation of the 8 inch water line from the Town of Selmanorthward to a site where Allied Mills plans to construct a plant Following are the bids assubmitted, along with a breakdown between the Town of Selma, County of Johnston and James WWhitleyWATER IMPROVEMENTS -
