HistorianMr C S Coats, President of the Johnston County Historical Association, came beforethe Board and requested that the Board of County Commissioners adopt a resolution to set outthe correct spelling of Wilsons MillsTownshipMr Coats exhibited old pbstal - -records, showing -, the ,establishment of the Post Office atWilsons Mills in 1869 and a copy of Chapter 323 of the 1887 Public Laws of the General Assembyb ich created Wilsons Mills Township He stated that through common usage the apostrophe isoften left out after Wilson, and, he thought that this should, be corrected He asked, that theBoard of Commissioners pass the following resolution, calling attention to the correct spellingof Wilsons Mills TownshipUpon a motion by Commissioner Whitley and, upon second of Commissioner Bailey, it waspassed, unanimously that the attention of the people of Johnston County be called to the correct1 spelling of Wilsons Mills Township, to the end, that an apostrophe be placed after Wilson and,before the s2 M W Knott - Herald BuildingJames C Woodard, Clerk of Superior Court, and Harry K McGee, Architect, appearedbefore the Board and presented plans and specifications drawings for the renovation andthe conversion of the SmithfieldHerald Building into a new Courthouse AnnexCommissioner Whitley made a motion that the Architect and the Clerk go ahead with theplans and these plans and specifications be reviewed with the Resident Judge CommissionerWhitley further moved that James C Woodard, Clerk, be authorized and directed to advertisefor bids for the renovation of the old Smithfield Herald Building Said bids to be openedby the Board at a later dateThe motion was seconded by Commissioner Frank B?Holding and carried unanimously8 Courthouse RepairsJames C Woodard, Clerk of Superior Court, appeared before the Board and requestedthat he be authorized to make immediate repairs to the hole in the roof of _the Courthouse,and also to convert the old boiler room into a storage areaThe Board authorized Mr Woodard to go ahead with these repairs9 Road Petition - Heavner StreetA petition was presented to the Board, signed by several property owners of Route # 49Smithfield, requesting the addition of Heavner Street between Stancil and Hartley, intersectingPowell, two blocks from Thomas W Pittman to Grover C Godwin residencesCommissioner Bailey moved that the petition be approved and mailed to the State HighwayCommission office in Wilson, North Carolina, with the recommendation that said request begrantedCommissioner Denning seconded the motion which carried12 Road Petition - S R #1151Mr Less A Massengill of Route # 2, Four Oaks, North Carolina, presented to the Boarda petition signed by several property owners along S R #1151 requesting that this road bepaved as soon as possible and -asked the Board for its approvalCommissioner Denning moved that the petition be approved and mailed to the State HighwayCommission office in Wilson, North CarolinaCommissioner Holding seconded the motion which carried13 Notice- Application to the N C State ABC BoardCommissioner Holding moved that the following application to the N C State ABC Boardfor license to sell beer be approvedWilliam and Lois BradleyBradleys Soda ShopSmithfield, North Carolina612 Massey Street, Smithfield, N CCommissioner Bailey seconded the motion which was carried14 Paul Keller Ambulance ReportPaul Keller, Director of Johnston County Community Action, came before the Board andadvised that the ambulance was available for the County and needed to be picked up by April 5,1968Commissioner Holding stated that he would get in touch with Mr Simpson, Superintendentof Public Schools, and see if his transportation crew could pick it up15 Bert Monteque - Administrator of CourtsMr Bert Monteque, Administrator of Courts, visited with the Board of Commissioners andstated that he had viewed the plans for the renovation of the Old Smithfield Herald Buildingf,and the,-provisions being made for the Courtroom and related facilities, and he heartily approvedlthe plans16 Renting of Agriculture Building AuditoriumMr C W Tarlton, Extension Chairman, advised the Board that a Church of God fromRaleigh wanted to rent the Agriculture Building Auditorium for the purpose of holding a revival,for the week of July 7 through 14th He also stated they would pay the County a fee of 15 perday 10 for rent of building and 5 for Janitorial servicesAfter a thorough discussion, the Board advised Mr Tarlton to use his own discretionabout the matter1?to Upon a motion made by Commissioner Whitley and seconded by Commissioner Holding, it wasmoved that the meeting be recessed to meet again on April 8th at 745 P M
