Meeting of Board of County CommissionersMay 23, 1967The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the Auditors Office in theCourthouse at Smitbfield, Tuesday, May 23, 1967 at 745 pmMembers present H M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, Norman C Denning, Adam J Whitley,Jr and Frank B HoldingMembers absent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Johnston County and,Smithfield LibraryWallace Ashley, Jr, A L Ho bgood and Mrs Jane Cunningham appeared before the Board andexplained and reviewed its request for contributions to the Library of Johnston County andSmithfield to be appropriated in the 1967 -1968 county budget It was noted that the LibraryBoard of Trustees was requesting an increase in the Countys contribution by 2,51050 TheTrustees present explained that the increase in contribution would go for library personnelsalary increases, books,binding and utilities2 Johnston County Board of EducationDr Donnie Jones, Jr, Chairman of the Board of Education, Harold Medlin, member, N BGrantham, member and E W Ellis, member, along with Mr E S Simpson, Superintendent ofSchools presented and explained its tentative budget for the fiscal year 1967 -1968,The Board of Education also requested thatAttorney to proceed with the sale of the threeJuly 11 1967 as possible3 Soil Conservation Departmentthe Board of County Commissioners have its3 million dollars school bonds as early afterWilliam T Allen, Chairman of the Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation District,along with members, Odell Edwards, Carl Peacock, and D Ermit Stancil appeared before the Board,along with Mr J H Griffin and presented their tentative budget for the year 1967 -1968, whichwould necessitate an increase in county contribution by 453004 Civil Defense AgencyWilson Diggs Broadwell, Civil Defense Director met with the Board and presented andreviewed his 1967 -1968 budget requests,5 Advertise for Resell - Library PropertiesCommissioner Frank B Holding made a motion that the County Attorney be instructed toadvertise and resell the Library properties on Johnston Street in Smithfield and along NeuseRiveradjoining the American Legion propertyCommissioner J D Bailey seconded the motion, which carried unanimouslyThere was a motion made and seconded that the Board recess until a later date, at whichtime the Clerk to the Board would notify each memberC airmanClerk
