andWHEREAS, the purpose of FHA loans is to provide single family dwellings formoderate income families with a modest initial investment; andWHEREAS, many of the present residents of Johnston County and many moreprospective residents of Johnston County desire to purchase homes in Johnston County,especially in areas adjacent to the boundaries of Wake County; andWHEREAS, the maximum amount allowed for an FHA loan guaranty in WakeCounty is 88,80000; andWHEREAS, the maximum amount of an FHA insured loan in Johnston County isonly 68,40000; andWHEREAS, the cost of building materials, labor, and developed lots inJohnston County are virtually the same as those costs are in Wake County; andWHEREAS, the present cost of housing prevents many first -time homebuyersfrom purchasing a house with a mximum loan amount of 68,40000, to the detriment ofJohnston County and its residentsNOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners,Johnston County, North Carolina, do hereby request that the United States Departmentof Housing and Urban Development increase the maximum loan amount which may beeligible for guaranty by the Department of Housing and Urban Development pursuant tothe National Housing Act to 88,80000 in order to correct inequities in the present system which deprive many young families from purchasing homes in Johnston CountyThis the 11th day of May, 1987Upon a motion by Commissioner James W Cash, duly seconded by CommissionerJohn M Booker and carried it was moved the Board of Commissioners recess regularsession to sit as a Board of Equalization and ReviewBOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW HEARINGS2280 acres - about 20 cleared;
