day of March 1936 adoptedan order quit - claiming to L V Barbour 154 acres in Cleveland Township, foreclosedin the name of John Fisher, upon the payment of 89, including taxes and penaltiesthrough the year 1935,And whereas, subsequent to order the property was listed in the name of L VBarbour and taxes paid through 1964,And whereas, if a quit -claim deed was made to Mr Barbour it was either misplacedor lost,Now therefore, in order to remove cloud from title and to effect conveyanceaccording to order dated March 2, 19561 it was ordered that a quit -claim deed be madeto L V Barbour conveying 154 acres in Cleveland Township,Commissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr seconded the motion, which was carried3 Request for Site for Hastings- Peacock HouseA group of ladies, representing the Junior and Senior Womens Clubs of Smithfield,composed of Mrs Denton Lee, Mrs George Mast, Mrs Stratton Story, Mrs Von Rhoades,Mrs E P Cunningham, Jr and Mrs William Barnes requested that the county provideor contribute a site from property awned by the County known as the Town Commons,which the county acquired by virtue of will of Miss Virginia Williamson?,for thepurpose of locating thereon the Hastings - Peacock House, which had been appraised byrepresentative from the Department of Archives as having historical value and worthyof preservationAfter viewing the location requested and considering the best plan to pursue,in order for a corporation in the process of being formed to acquire title, CommissionerFrank B Holding moved that W R Britt, County Attorney, be authorized and directedto advertise and sell all the countyts right, title and interest in a lot 60 feetby 115 feet, located at the west end of Johnston Street and on the north side of theSmithfield Primitive Baptist Church, carried6 Appointment Cameron GarrisUpon the approval and recommendation of Dr W G Andrews, District Agent ExtensionDepartment, and C W Tarlton, County Extension Chairman, Commissioner Norman C Denningmoved that Mr Cameron Garris, a member of Duplin County Extension Service, be employedas Agricultural Extension Agent replacing Donald Williamson, effective April 1, 1965Further moved that Mr Garris be paid at an annual rate of 362200, representingan annual increase of 25000 with said funds to provide increase coming from amountallocated to salaries in the Agricultural Agents Commissioner Frank B Holding moved that W H Britt, Auditor, be author-ized and directed to renovate the Judgets Room and purchase waste paper basket and anyother items he deemed necessary for the room Commerce,Inc requesting that the County pay 13 of the cost, amounting to 8010 of 65,000survey forms necessary in industrial expansion and distributed throughout JohnstonCountyAfter a discussion, W G Massey, Clerk, was directed to notify Mr Douglas Little,President, Smithfield Chamber of Commerce, Ir1c that although they were sympathetic tohis request that they did not deem it advisable to contribute to this cause10 RoadsMr J I Lynch, District Engineer, State Highway Commission, made his bi- monthlyappearance for the purpose of discussing with the Board any road problems that might Heel Fire District was duly presented to the Board; and itappearing to the Board that the Bethany Fire Department has complied with theprovisions of resolution providing for the establishment of fire
