217Meeting-- of --Boazd- of Commi asi onar4 -for _tbp—Cotv-ofiohnstonJune 4, 1964The Board of Commissioners of Johnston County reconvened in special session onJune 4, 1964, at 7 30 P M, in the Auditors office, for the purpose of hearing budgetrequests for the year 1964 -65 from department heads and others, with the followingmembers presentH M Johnson, Chairman, J D Bailey, Frank B Holding, Norman C Denning andJesse H Austin, JrAbsent NoneThe following business was transacted1 Wilson Diggs Broadwell, Civil Defense Director, presented the needs in detailfor his department for the ensuing year2 L P Creech, Veterans Service Officer, presented his budget needs for the ensuingyear3 Edgar Baugham, Tax Collector, presented his budget needs for the ensuing year andbrought to their attention efforts being made by his department in the collection ofdelinquent taxes4 C W Tarlton, White Agricultural Agent, Sarah Ann Sasser, Home Economics Agent,and H F Palmer, Negro Agricultural Agent, presented their budget needs for theyear 1964 -655 Mrs Eleanor Hooks, County Librarian, accompanied by Mrs J J Boyette and MrsRaleigh Griffin, Trustees of the Library, presented the needs for the library for theensuing yearMrs Hooks brought to the attention of the Board the need of the appointment ofTrustees to replace Mrs Harold Medlin of Benson and Mrs Paul Keller, of Clayton6 J Narvin Creech, Treasurer, Rayford Oliver, Sheriff, Mrs Nora P Southerland,Clerk of the Superior Court, W G Massey, Register of Deeds, and W H Britt, Auditor,presented budget needs in detail for their respective departments and stressed theneed and importance of the county adopting a retirement plan7 W G Massey, Clerk, was instructed to contact the proper Welfare Officials inRaleigh and request that the deadline of July 1, 1964 for not relicensing of theJohnston County Boarding Home unless certain conditions are met be extended for areasonable length of time, in order for Mrs McGregor to make certain adjustments,as the County was in the process of selling the Boarding Home property, in which MrsMcGregor seemed interested in purchasingOn motion made, seconded and carried, it was moved that the meeting be recessedto meet on June 9, 1964, at 730 P M, for the purpose of hearing further requestsfrom department heads relative to the 1964 -65 budgetirmanClark
