thence in a Northeasterly direction to the point 1 of itsbeginningCommissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr seconded the motion, which was carried7 Sale of Desks Agricultural Agents OfficeCommissioner Frank B Holding moved that C W Tarlton, Agricultural Agent, beauthorized to sell old desks in his department and use the funds derived therefrom forshelving and cabinetsCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion, which was carried8 Voting MachinesThe question of determining the position of the County and the towns of Smithfield,Selma and Clayton in relationship to the voting machines since the towns have or willcomplete making ten 10 annual payments towards the purchase or rental of the machinesas they proposed to do by letters on file with W G Massey, ClerkAfter a discussion, W G Massey, Clerk, was directed to notify the towns that intheir opinion the towns should pay an annual fee of 2500 per machine fox- -whichthey had originally contracted for and that the county would assume the responsibilityof keeping the machines in repairs9 Resignation L Austin Stevens Assistant Solicitor SuperiorCourtChairman H M Johnson presented resignation?of L Austin Stevens, AssistantSolicitor of the Superior Court, effective July 20, 1964 21The acceptance of resignation was deferred until July 20, 1964, when the Boardwill meet in special session10 Paving Road # 1717Commissioner Jesse H Austin, Jr moved that the following resolution be adoptedRESOLUTIONWhereas, J I Lynch, District Engineer, has presented the need for the completionof paving SR # 1717 from the Wake County line to a point in Johnston County and reviewedwith the Board the policy of the State Highway Commission relating to paving connectinglinks between counties,Now therefore, be it resolved that the State Highway Commission be requested topave SR 1717 from the Wake County line to S R # 1003, being a distance of approximately,7 of a mile in lengthCommissioner Norman C Denning seconded the motion, which was carried11 Boarding Home Property,Approximately thirty 30 citizens appeared before the Board and protested theiraction in ordering the sale of the Boarding Home property located on Highway 210, app-roximately five miles from SmithfieldMessrs Wade Stephenson, J Marvin Johnson, Adam J Whitley, Jr, Delmon Massengill,Floyd C Price, Sr, W T Dance, representing the Pou- Parrish Post No 132, and othersspeaking for themselves and representing other organizations and Mrs W B Oliver, re-presenting the Pine Level Womans Club and other ladies speaking for themselves andrepresenting different organizations, spoke out against the action of the Board, statingin substance that the Boarding Home filled a definite need in the community;
