received fromJ I Lynch, District Engineer of the State Highway Commission, Secondary Road Ratings -1965 and have reviewed the 1965 -66 Secondary Road Program of Johnston County as present-ed by Mr Lynch, all of said roads being a part of the system of roads maintained bythe State Highway Commission;And whereas, after careful consideration of the services rendered by said roadsand the traffic demands of said county it is deemed necessary that said roads beimproved, in order to better serve the interests of the people of the county;Now therefore, be it resolved that the Board of County Board for the tax year 1965, and that the majority of them recommend a 50tax assessment ratioNow therefore, be it resolved that the Board of County Commissioners of JohnstonCounty adopt a tax assessment ratio of 50 of the appraised value of all property inJohnston County for the tax year 1965 and that the North Carolina State Board ofAssessments be advised of this action, as provided in G BattlegroundCentennialMiss Mildred Yarborough acted as spokesman for the group and introduced Mr Tarltonand Mr Sawyer, who gave a brief outline of the purpose and program of the proposedcelebration to take place on March 20 -21, 1965Miss Yarborough requested that the Board contribute 200000 to cover the expensesof the celebrationAfter a discussion of the request, it was the concensus that the matter be deferredfor future study and consideration as it might be necessary to secure an act of theGeneral Assembly if a contribution was to be made from ad valorem taxes12 Visit of Mr DeWulf, Stella OnealThe complaint of Stella Oneal in connection with her keeping a physically handicappedchild in need of hospital treatment was received and she was informed that the matterwould be taken up with Mrs Park, Director Welfare Department14 Tax CollectorMr Harper Godwin, Tax Collector, reported that he was requesting the cooperationof W H Britt, Tax Supervisor, in getting the tax listers to get the Social Securitynumber of all tax payers,in order to assist him in the collection of taxesMr Godwin, Tax Collector, recommended that the sale of tax liens of real estatebe advertised in June and sold in July The proposal was discussed and deferredpending further study and investigation15 Proposal Model Forestry ProjectC W Tarlton, Agricultural Agent, proposed a model forestry project for areaof the woodlands of the County Home property, which met the unanimous approval of theBoardMrTarlton was requested to proceed with plans for approval of the Board at theirJanuary meeting16
